Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Sochi, Russia, on June 9. Putin said Ukraine has begun a long-awaited counterattack, but Kiev has so far failed to achieve its goals. The Russian president stressed that fierce fighting has been going on for five days and the Russian military is trying to hold its positions. According to him, Kiev still maintains its offensive capabilities and expects Russian commanders to “realistically assess the situation” and act accordingly. (Source: Reuters)
