On the afternoon of October 24, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received Mr. Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives.

General Secretary To Lam welcomed His Excellency Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul to pay an official visit to Vietnam in the context of the bilateral relations developing very well, the two countries have just celebrated the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and are looking forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary of establishing the Strategic Partnership in 2025; he believed that the visit would contribute to further promoting the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul thanked General Secretary To Lam for taking the time to receive the delegation; shared good impressions about the country and people of Vietnam; and highly appreciated Vietnam's great achievements in socio-economic development and anti-corruption.
The Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives said that as ASEAN Chair in 2025, Malaysia will strive to contribute to building a prosperous ASEAN Community; and wishes to cooperate closely with Vietnam to enhance friendship, peace, stability, and freedom in Southeast Asia as well as enhance ASEAN's position and role in the region.
General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the good traditional friendship between Vietnam and Malaysia; emphasizing that the two countries share many common views on regional and international issues.
The General Secretary welcomed the results of the talks between the Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives and the Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man as well as the effective cooperation between the two countries' parliaments in the field of law-making, enforcement and supervision; he believed that in its role as ASEAN Chair 2025, Malaysia will work with ASEAN countries to build a peaceful, stable, cooperative and developed Southeast Asia.
General Secretary To Lam emphasized that building an effective cooperative relationship between the two countries is very important in the current complicated world situation; suggested that the two countries increase exchanges and contacts at high and all levels to consolidate political trust, coordinate on issues of mutual concern; further facilitate economic, trade and investment cooperation, and strive to increase bilateral trade turnover to 18 billion USD towards balance by 2025.
The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam will create favorable conditions for Malaysian investors as well as encourage Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Malaysia, especially in areas of mutual interest such as new technology, digital transformation, clean energy; strengthen defense-security cooperation, crime prevention and control, promote maritime cooperation, promote the common role and responsibility in ensuring a peaceful and stable environment in the region, including the East Sea; thank and request Malaysia to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Malaysia.
The Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives highly appreciated and acknowledged the opinions of General Secretary To Lam, affirming that Malaysia will make efforts to coordinate with Vietnam to further promote cooperation between the two countries as well as build a prosperous and developed ASEAN Community.
