Seminar “Developing Cultural Industry: What are the pillars?”: The potential of Vietnamese culture is huge
Người Lao Động•06/12/2024
At the seminar, many practical contributions were made so that Vietnam does not miss the opportunity to develop the cultural industry.
Mr. NGUYEN HUU ANH (CEO of The First Management): People are the biggest pillarIn 2023, singer Chi Pu of The First Management Company has the opportunity to participate in the program "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves" of China with female artists from many countries. We are concerned because at this time Chi Pu is seen as a representative of Vietnam in the international environment. Not only does she have to perform her best and make her home audience proud, but she also has to take advantage of the opportunity to promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends.

We remixed the song "Doa hoa hong", added parts in all 3 languages: Vietnamese - English - Chinese, combined with the use of traditional musical instruments. Thanks to the effect of cultural exchange through language and music, Chi Pu's performance received a lot of attention. In addition, we also brought Ao Dai as gifts or wore costumes by Vietnamese designers...After this program, Chinese audiences who love Chi Pu began to pay more attention to Vietnamese culture and cuisine. Many even flew from China to Vietnam to attend Chi Pu's fan meeting. Her post as the media ambassador for the 2024 River Festival on Weibo (China's largest social network) also received a lot of interaction. From these experiences, we realized that promoting the image of Vietnam through culture and entertainment is very important. As the CEO of a private enterprise, I believe that people are the biggest pillars, including artists and cultural workers.

Mr. PHAM DINH TAM, CEO of IME Vietnam Company: Infrastructure investment is needed. In fact, the entertainment/concert ticketing industry in Vietnam has only exploded and blossomed since Blackpink 2023. Before that, shows in Vietnam were almost rare in terms of large-scale programs, making it difficult to sell many tickets to achieve high revenue.
Mr. PHAM DINH TAM
In my opinion, Vietnam's potential is huge. Vietnam is a place where the potential has not been fully exploited, and the population is also higher than other countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. More and more foreign companies are coming to Vietnam. However, if there are big shows held in Vietnam, organizers like us have a headache with the question: Where to organize when the venues all have very old infrastructure. Meanwhile, the requirements and demands of the partners are always strict, if not harsh. When the requirements of professionalism in the organization are not guaranteed, wanting to carry out grand programs and festivals is very difficult because of the partners' hesitation.A small but not small problem, which has caused headaches for organizers and has led to many lawsuits but has not yet had a satisfactory answer, is the way copyright is calculated in Vietnam. Many Vietnamese businesses oppose the collection of copyright and have had long-term litigation.Ms. THU HIEN TRAN, communications specialist: 3 important factors. One is the cultural foundation. Vietnam is a country with a rich culture, very unique art forms, many colorful ethnic festivals in all regions...

Second is the mechanism and policy. There needs to be an open legal corridor and tax incentives to create opportunities for domestic and foreign companies.Third is people. It is necessary to invest in developing and nurturing talents to have a rich human resource that can support each other. It is necessary to create conditions for young people to develop. The previous generations with experience also need conditions to develop. Exchange between generations is very necessary. Dr. - producer DO TIEN:Integrate but do not dissolveAfter nearly 20 years of living and working abroad (Russia and Ukraine - PV), I realized that the core value of the cultural industry is national culture. We need to integrate but not dissolve.
TS - Producer DO TIEN
Many times, we - people far from home - have to redesign the old Tet space together, organize folk games, and Vietnamese language classes for the children of the F2 and F3 generations abroad. The important issue is how we and our children, even though living abroad, can still preserve the Vietnamese culture. When I return to Vietnam, sometimes I feel sad because many people emphasize imported culture and underestimate the original culture. Many people consider it inevitable, necessary to integrate and be in tune with the world. But for me, the core cultural value is the origin.Reality has proven that we can make money, even a lot of money, from culture. To be able to develop the Vietnamese cultural industry, perhaps we need the cooperation of the authorities, the kindness of professionals and the frank rejection of "nonsense" cultural products by the public.
