China Two girls found a bundle of $15,500 in cash in their rented room in Jiangxi province and turned it in to the police to return to the landlord.
Hoang Lo and Long Di Binh, two female nursing students interning at Bac Ho Hospital in Tan Du City, Jiangxi Province, unexpectedly discovered a red plastic bag containing money on top of a closet while cleaning their newly rented room near the hospital on January 2.
"At first I thought it was the previous tenant who left it behind. They would be very worried if they didn't find the money. We discussed it and decided to go to the police station to report it," Di Binh said in an interview last weekend.
At the police station near the hospital, police counted 15 bundles of 50-100 yuan bills in the bag, with a total value of 110,000 yuan (nearly 15,500 USD).

They contacted the homeowner, Mr. Liu, but he said he did not know about the money. Mr. Liu added that the house was where his parents lived before they died and that they had a habit of withdrawing all their pensions each month to take home.
After further investigation, the police concluded that the money was left by Mr. Liu’s parents and decided to return it to Ms. Du, Mr. Liu’s wife, on January 3. After receiving the money, Mr. Liu and his wife thanked Hoang Lo and Long Di Binh and decided to waive the two girls’ rent for one year.

"The person who lost this large amount of money must have been very worried. I simply thought that I should hand the items over to the police to handle," Hoang Lo explained his decision.
"If we encounter this situation 10 times, 100 times, 1,000 times, we will act the same way, because this is the right thing to do," Di Binh expressed.
