On the evening of March 17, a serious fire broke out at Thanh Da market, Binh Thanh district, Ho Chi Minh City, causing many stalls to burn down and property to be destroyed. Recorded on the morning of March 18, the scene of the fire was very messy, with charred objects lying everywhere.

Ms. Lien Phuong, the owner of a stall opposite the fire area, was still very panicked and confused. She said she could not sleep until 5am because she was so haunted by the fire.

"Around 10pm last night, a fire suddenly broke out at the front stall of the market. In a split second, the fire spread to the adjacent stalls. When they discovered the fire, many people took out mini fire extinguishers to spray it but it was no use, the fire was spreading everywhere terribly. My house on this side was also swept over by the fire, the roof was scorched, we had to close the front door and run out the back door to get out," said Ms. Phuong.

According to Ms. Phuong, because the stall owners all closed their shops at night and went home to rest, luckily there were no casualties. However, the properties and goods of the stalls were burned down. Hearing the news of the market fire, many people ran out and could only helplessly watch their properties being taken away by the "fire lady". "It was so sad, everyone cried their eyes out. The mattress stall owner fainted because all his property and capital were in there," Ms. Phuong choked up.

Earlier, at around 10:15 p.m. on March 17, a fire broke out at a newspaper and textbook stall on Thanh Da Street. Because the stall contained many flammable materials such as paper, plastic, and fabric, the fire quickly spread, engulfing the entire area. Within just 15 minutes, the surrounding stalls, mainly selling clothes, children's toys, and household items, were completely burned down.

Thanh Da Market is located in the middle of 13 Thanh Da residential areas, where more than 1,000 people live. The fire area is the first row of kiosks next to the entrance of Thanh Da Market, with a fire area of about 500 square meters. When the fire broke out, many adults and children evacuated downstairs to ensure safety, avoiding inhaling toxic smoke rising to the floors of the residential area.

The Fire Prevention and Fighting Force mobilized many fire trucks and dozens of soldiers to the scene. However, because the fire was too large and spread quickly, it was difficult to put out. By 11pm on March 17, the fire was basically under control, but nearly a dozen stalls had completely collapsed. Currently, the authorities are calculating the damage and investigating the cause of the fire.
