A voter in Pennsylvania received $1 million from billionaire Musk on October 20.
Right before the US presidential election, a judge in Pennsylvania refused to stop billionaire Elon Musk from giving $1 million to voters in battleground states.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner's office in Pennsylvania on October 28 sued billionaire Musk's political action committee (PAC) America PAC over the above donation.
Mr. Krasner asked for the daily bonus program to be stopped, but Judge Angelo Foglietta refused to do so after a daylong hearing on November 4 that included Mr. Musk’s lawyers and prosecutors.
Judge Foglietta did not immediately give a reason for his decision, although no further giveaways are planned in Pennsylvania.
Last month, the billionaire promised to give money to people who sign his petition on free speech and gun rights. The rewards will be given out randomly and will continue until the US presidential election on November 5.
US Election: Which billionaires support Trump-Harris candidates?
According to America PAC’s website, 16 people have received money, including four in Pennsylvania. The plaintiffs claim the giveaway is an “illegal lottery” that entices Pennsylvania residents to provide their personal information.
Billionaire Musk is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as well as owner of social network X. He has devoted much of his time, money and influence to supporting Republican candidate former President Donald Trump in the race for the White House against Vice President Kamala Harris.
As the world's richest person, he has donated at least $118 million to his political action committee. According to Forbes magazine on November 5, billionaire Musk currently has assets worth $263.3 billion, higher than the world's second richest person, billionaire Jeff Bezos, with assets worth $215 billion.
