( Bqp.vn ) - On the morning of August 20, in Hanoi, Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, received Major General Kongthoong Soukhavong, Director of the Department of Operations (General Staff of the Lao People's Army) on the occasion of his working visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang affirmed that the senior leaders of the two countries always attach importance to preserving and consolidating the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in all circumstances and always wish to foster the already good bilateral relationship to become even better. Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang emphasized that the military and defense cooperation between Vietnam and Laos has continued to be promoted substantially and effectively in recent times, and is one of the important pillars of the bilateral relationship, prominently in the following areas: Exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations; effectively maintained cooperation mechanisms; cooperation in border management and protection; human resource training; propaganda on the solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos; the search, collection and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos during the war; coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, etc.

Major General Kongthoong Soukhavong informed Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang of the results of the talks between the Department of Operations (General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army) and the Department of Operations (General Staff of the Lao People's Army); at the same time, he expressed his hope that the leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army will continue to create conditions for the two agencies to promote cooperation.
Acknowledging and appreciating the results of the talks, Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang affirmed that the leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army always attach importance to and create the most favorable conditions for the cooperative relationship between the operational agencies of the two countries' armies.

At the talks, Major General Nguyen Huy Canh and Major General Kongthoong Soukhavong assessed that in recent times, the two sides have effectively coordinated according to their assigned functions and tasks, promptly advised and proposed to the leaders of the General Staff and the Ministry of National Defense of the two countries, contributing to firmly protecting the independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and protecting the national and ethnic interests of each country, for peace, stability, and sustainable development of the region. The two sides agreed to continue to coordinate more closely in the coming time in their respective fields, focusing on exchanging information, sharing experiences, constantly innovating, and improving the effectiveness of advising and proposing to the leaders of the General Staff and the Ministry of National Defense of the two countries on military and defense work.
