Prime Minister receives leaders of major Australian corporations

During his visit to Australia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with leaders of many large corporations in the mining and agricultural production sectors of Australia.
On the afternoon of March 8, in Canberra, Australia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with leaders of many large corporations in the mining and agricultural production sectors of Australia. Introducing the carbon-neutral LNG value chain to the Prime Minister, SK's Country Director in Australia said that the group has many cross-border projects being implemented in countries such as South Korea, Australia, and East Timor. These projects use natural gas to produce green hydrogen, and the key point is to use depleted gas fields as a permanent storage place for CO2 emitted during the production process. SK affirmed that this chain of projects can generate clean energy because it captures 98% of the emitted gas.

SK leaders wish to deploy the above model in Vietnam. This model originally required the participation of three countries, but with Vietnam's advantages, it can be completely implemented in one country. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated SK's proposal to invest in a green hydrogen production project in Vietnam. He asked SK to provide more information on the cost of exploiting LNG for the project chain in Australia. After receiving the response, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the proposed cost and suggested that the group work with relevant ministries and agencies to promote project preparation. The Prime Minister supported SK's strategic cooperation with the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and encouraged the group to compete fairly with other partners. In the afternoon of the same day, the Prime Minister received Mr. Paul Serra, CEO of SunRice Group of Australia, the largest rice production and distribution group in Australia, accounting for about 90% of the country's rice market share.

The Prime Minister wants SunRice Group to seek partners and develop specific projects in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister hopes that SunRice, with its experience, resources and reputation, will continue to expand its investment and participate in supporting the development of the rice supply chain in Vietnam in the coming time. In particular, it will increase technology transfer, cooperate with domestic enterprises, work directly with farmers, stabilize output and input, build warehouses, contribute to improving production efficiency, added value and quality of Vietnamese rice products to meet the needs of consumers around the world. The Prime Minister also asked SunRice to support bringing Vietnamese products deeper into the global supply chain, especially in the Halal food industry, creating livelihoods, improving people's lives, and promoting socio-economic development in general. The Prime Minister suggested that the group directly discuss with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, seek partners to research and implement specific cooperation projects, bringing practical benefits to both sides, especially participating in the program of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice in the Mekong Delta. In addition to rice, the Prime Minister suggested that SunRice study and expand its operations to other agricultural products that are abundant in different regions of Vietnam such as fruits and seafood. In 2008, the group bought a controlling stake in Lap Vo rice processing factory in Dong Thap province with a processing capacity of about 260,000 tons of dry rice/year. From 2022 to present, SunRice is coordinating with the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) to implement the project "Developing a high-quality rice supply chain in the Mekong Delta" with the goal of developing high-yield and high-quality varieties, sustainably serving the international consumer market.

During the working day today, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also received leaders of two Australian corporations operating in the mineral sector: Mr. Ian Jeffrey Gandel, Chairman of ASM Group (2000); and Mr. Oliver Kleinhempel, Chairman of EQ Resources Group (2005). Welcoming and appreciating the effective investment and business activities of the two corporations in recent times, the Prime Minister said that developing the mineral industry is a strategic task, requiring resources and modern technology to promote available potential. The Prime Minister stated that mineral projects need to be implemented in the direction of high technology, deep exploitation and processing, not selling raw ore, increasing support, technology transfer, increasing the value of minerals, bringing Vietnamese enterprises deeper into the global supply chain, protecting the environment, harmonizing interests, and sharing risks. Agreeing with the Prime Minister, the leaders of the corporations affirmed that they will implement projects in Vietnam in the above direction; At the same time, he expressed his impression and appreciation of the Prime Minister's message about harmonious benefits and shared risks among parties in the investment process.
