"The capital of the wood industry" Binh Dinh promotes investment and export

On the morning of March 9, the opening ceremony of the Quy Nhon 2024 International Outdoor Fashion Fair (Q-FAIR 2024) was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province in Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh).

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee emphasized that Binh Dinh has a forest and forestry land area of ​​415,700 hectares, with a forest cover of more than 57%. Currently, the province has a project to develop large timber trees for the period 2016-2025, with a vision to 2035. The whole province has developed nearly 10,000 hectares of large timber forests, 15,000 hectares of forests certified for sustainable forest management (FSC).

It is expected that by 2025, the total area of ​​large timber plantations in the province will reach 10,000 hectares, nearly 16,000 hectares of FSC forests. By 2030, the province will develop 50,000 hectares of large timber plantations...

Mr. Tuan said: Along with the orientation of developing large timber plantations, Binh Dinh is also one of the localities with the largest wood processing and exporting activities in the country, known as one of the "wood industry capitals" of the country, one of the centers for developing industry clusters for wood processing and forestry products. The potential for developing the wood industry is large, because the province has all the conditions such as: Favorable location as the gateway to the Central Highlands, closely connected with raw material areas connected to Quy Nhon seaport.

According to statistics, Binh Dinh has the largest number of wood processing factories in the country, concentrated in Phu Tai Industrial Park and Long My Industrial Park, with about 300 wood processing enterprises in operation, of which 245 enterprises have come into operation, with a total investment capital of about 12,000 billion VND. At the same time, the human resources for the wood processing industry are large-scale, most of whom are highly skilled workers.

"The main processed products are interior, exterior, garden furniture and other products (such as wood chips, pellets). Main consumption markets: US, EU, UK, Australia, Japan... Some product groups have large turnover value, playing an important role in the development strategy of the wood industry in Binh Dinh and the whole country", Mr. Tuan emphasized.

Not stopping at the achieved results, Binh Dinh has proposed a strategy to develop the wood industry combined with a new production organization method according to the value chain from forest planting to processing and consumption, associated with promoting the attraction of deep processing projects and export production. The province aims to become the high-tech forest product processing center of the region.

At this first wood industry fair, Binh Dinh hopes to promote trade in the wood industry, seek new cooperation between provincial and national enterprises with international partners. This is also an opportunity for enterprises to access more modern technologies and machinery to help increase production and processing of export products; attract tourists and customers to learn about the market, products and potential strengths in Binh Dinh.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tri, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, assessed that the fair for exporting wooden and outdoor wooden products is a proactive, flexible and creative solution for finding markets... In addition, wood exporting enterprises need to have fundamental solutions in technological innovation, raw material supply and especially market finding.

According to the leader of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023, the export value of Vietnam's wood and forest products will reach 14.5 billion USD, exported to 140 countries and territories. In 2024, the prospect of domestic wood exports is quite positive with the first two months of the year reaching over 2 billion USD, the whole country achieving the annual export value target of 15 billion USD.

The representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized that the wood processing and export industry has become an important and key industry in the Vietnamese economy. Each year, the export value reaches over 10 billion USD, making our country the 5th largest exporter of wood products in the world, the 2nd in Asia and the leader in Southeast Asia. In particular, Binh Dinh province has made a great contribution to the country's wood industry, becoming one of the 4 centers with the largest number of wood exporting enterprises in the country.

Q-FAIR 2024 takes place from March 9 to 12 with over 1,000 booths of hundreds of businesses and many meaningful activities: The first quarter 2024 wood industry conference of the wood industry nationwide (afternoon of March 9); 4 thematic seminars including: FSC COC certification, essential luggage for wood industry enterprises; digital transformation of the wood industry; FSC with EUDR regulations, greenhouse gas inventory of wood industry enterprises; strengthening the development of the acacia wood value chain in Vietnam: Lessons learned...

According to the Binh Dinh Timber and Forest Products Association, this is the first international outdoor furniture export fair in Binh Dinh - one of the four largest wood export capitals in Vietnam.

On this occasion, the leaders of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee called on organizations, associations and enterprises to pay attention to researching and exploring investment and trade cooperation opportunities in Binh Dinh province, especially in the field of production and processing of wood and wood products, with the development orientation to 2030, Binh Dinh's main export items are wood and wood products, worth about more than 1 billion USD .
