Maignan had a tough day. |
In the early morning of April 6, when a journalist asked the "Rossoneri" players what they needed to revive the season described as "disastrous", Maignan replied sarcastically: "Maybe we need someone like you. It seems like you know how to stir up the team spirit, right?".
The French goalkeeper also refuted comments from reporters, when they said that AC Milan's playing attitude was problematic, through conceding goals too easily in the first minutes.
“I don’t see it the way you say – we played together. I was angry when we conceded, but the attitude of the team afterwards was right. Milan responded well to the opponent in the game, although unfortunately it only came after we were behind,” Maignan explained.
At home at San Siro, the "Rossoneri" got off to a poor start when they conceded 0-2 after just 10 minutes thanks to an own goal from Malick Thiaw and a goal from Moise Kean. Fortunately for AC Milan, Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic later equalized 2-2, preventing Maignan's team from sinking deeper into crisis.
After the match, coach Sergio Conceicao also admitted that Milan made unnecessary mistakes in the draw with Fiorentina, and that the players' repeated mistakes could not be overcome. "I take the ultimate responsibility for that, because I am the coach," coach Conceicao said.
Despite equalizing from a two-goal deficit, the result still leaves Milan stuck in ninth place in the standings, facing the risk of falling further behind in the race for a European Cup ticket. The Coppa Italia is likely to be Milan's best chance to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for next season's Europa League.
