The product launch ceremony took place at Lotte Mart Jamsil.

The event is not only a testament to the quality and reputation of Vietnamese fruits in the international market, but also demonstrates the persistent efforts of authorities and businesses in opening the door to official exports to this demanding market.

The product launch ceremony took place solemnly at Lotte Mart Jamsil, with the participation of representatives of the Vietnam Trade Office in Korea, leaders of Hoang Huy Company, the first grapefruit exporter to Korea, and distribution partners of Lotte Group. This is an opportunity for both sides to look back on many years of cooperation and discuss solutions for sustainable development of Vietnam's agricultural supply chain in the context of volatile global markets.

According to the Plant Protection Department ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), the negotiation process to open the market for grapefruit was initiated by Vietnam in 2018, but was only really promoted strongly after the Covid-19 pandemic. After a series of rounds of pest risk assessment, technical inspection and agreement on quarantine conditions, by August 2024, Vietnamese grapefruit was officially licensed to be imported into Korea.

Immediately after that, in September 2024, Hoang Huy Company Limited successfully exported the first batch of grapefruit with an output of 5 tons. In 2025, this enterprise aims to export 500 tons of grapefruit, with an estimated total value of up to 1.2 million USD. This is an encouraging first step in gradually building the Vietnamese grapefruit brand in the Korean market, one of the consumer markets with high demands on quality and food safety.

According to data from the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI), South Korea's fresh fruit imports in 2024 reached a record $1.45 billion, up 20.1% from the previous year. This growth reflects the growing demand for imported fruit amid climate change that is severely affecting domestic agricultural productivity. KREI forecasts that South Korea's total fruit imports will continue to increase over the next decade, creating significant opportunities for reputable suppliers like Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, a representative of Lotte Mart Group highly appreciated the potential of Vietnamese grapefruit not only in its unique flavor, but also in its ability to meet strict technical standards. After testing distribution at the Jamsil branch, Lotte Mart will consider expanding to the entire system if it receives positive feedback from consumers.

This is a positive signal for Vietnam's agricultural industry, and at the same time an affirmation that, if properly invested in from cultivation, harvesting, processing to quarantine and marketing, Vietnamese agricultural products can completely compete fairly in the international market.

The Vietnam Trade Office in Korea and the Vietnamese Embassy are committed to continuing to support businesses through trade promotion activities, providing market information, connecting partners and accompanying them in the process of completing export documents and procedures.

The presence of Vietnamese grapefruit in major supermarket chains in Korea not only contributes to increasing bilateral trade turnover, but is also a symbol of effective cooperation between management agencies and businesses in promoting agricultural exports in a sustainable and systematic manner.
