Mr. DeSantis filed his candidacy papers with the Federal Election Commission on May 24 before participating in a live broadcast on Twitter with the owner of this social network - billionaire Elon Musk, according to AFP.
Mr. DeSantis was a baseball star at Yale University, has a law degree from Harvard University, completed six years of military service in the US Navy and served in Iraq, five years as a congressman and four years as governor of Florida.

DeSantis waited until the state legislature passed several policy victories for him before entering the race. According to Reuters, he signed measures restricting abortion in Florida, loosening gun laws, expanding financial aid for students at private schools and eliminating subsidies for diversity programs at public universities.
At 45, he is considered a rising star of the Republican Party but has been relentlessly attacked by Mr. Trump in recent months and is behind the former president in most polls. According to AFP, despite his many legal troubles, Mr. Trump still leads by a large margin of nearly 40 percentage points.
“We must end the loser culture that has infected the Republican Party in recent years,” Mr. DeSantis said at the event with Mr. Musk.
