Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 has special significance, being an outstanding international event with a message of peace, cooperation, and mutual development, contributing to promoting foreign affairs and defense cooperation in all fields; for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam is a peace-loving country that values ​​justice, love and reason in international cooperation. Vietnam consistently implements a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification of relations, is a good friend and reliable partner to all countries and is an active and responsible member of the international community.

Vietnam proactively promotes foreign affairs and defense cooperation to enhance friendship and mutual understanding, demonstrate sincerity and build trust, jointly address common security and safety challenges, prevent conflicts and prevent wars, in accordance with the basic principles of international law, and contribute to peace, cooperation and common development in the region and around the world.

Having experienced much pain, sacrifice and loss due to war, Vietnam understands and appreciates the value of friendship, for peace, cooperation and development.

“Vietnam firmly adheres to the “four no’s” defense policy: no participation in military alliances, no ally with one country to fight against another, no allowing foreign countries to set up military bases or use its territory to fight against other countries, no use of force or threat to use force in international relations,” Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed.

The head of the Government informed that Vietnam advocates building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern army; building a strong enough national defense potential to enhance the ability to defend and protect the country early, from afar, from the starting point.

“Vietnam is orienting its strategy to develop a proactive, self-reliant, dual-use, modern and internationally integrated defense industry; prioritizing research, development and application of advanced science and technology in the defense industry to optimize dual-use, both enhancing defense potential and developing the economy, serving the country's strategic interests and the practical lives of the people,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

Affirming Vietnam's role in international defense cooperation

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed that the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 is an affirmation of Vietnam's role and contribution in international defense cooperation; a symbol of trust, respect and goodwill for cooperation between countries for a peaceful and prosperous world; a vivid demonstration of the support and meaningful affection of international friends for the country, people and people of Vietnam - the heroic army that always shows sincerity and responsibility towards international friends.

With the participation of many international delegations, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that it is the prestige and brand in organizing defense exhibitions of Vietnam. This is an opportunity for all of us to strengthen our relationship, and also an opportunity for Vietnam to welcome international friends, share culture and art, introduce the country and people of Vietnam - a resilient, peace-loving, hard-working and creative, friendly and hospitable nation.

On behalf of the Government of Vietnam, the Prime Minister thanked the international delegations, leading defense industry corporations and groups, and friends from all over the world for gathering here. The Prime Minister believes that the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 will bring many opportunities for exchanges, experience sharing, and scientific and technological advances, promoting the development of military trade; opening up a promising future of cooperation, in line with the spirit of "peace, friendship, cooperation and development".

According to the Ministry of National Defense, the scale of the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 has an indoor exhibition area of ​​15,000 m2 and an outdoor area of ​​more than 20,000 m2. The exhibition displays 68 types of equipment in the Vietnam People's Army's inventory on an area of ​​10,530 m2. There are 66 international delegations and more than 240 defense industry enterprises from 49 countries participating in the exhibition.

At the exhibition area of ​​the Vietnamese defense industry, there are many modern weapons, such as suicide and reconnaissance UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) of the General Department of Defense Industry and Viettel Military Telecommunications Group; 3 types of submachine guns being mass-produced by the army to replace the AK-47: STV 380, STV 215 and STV 022; XCB-01 infantry fighting vehicle...

Opportunity for Vietnam's defense industry to reach out to the world market

In a welcome letter sent to the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, said that inheriting and promoting the spirit of patriotism, the quintessence of unique military art of the Vietnamese people and the support of international friends; after 80 years of building, fighting and growing, the Vietnam People's Army has continuously grown and developed, always completing all assigned missions.

“In the new situation, we continue to promote our core role in building a national defense, taking the lead in responding to non-traditional security challenges; especially in search and rescue, natural disaster prevention, and disease response, not only domestically but also in fulfilling our noble international responsibilities and obligations,” affirmed General Phan Van Giang.

According to General Phan Van Giang, the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 is an important event, aiming to implement the policy of synchronous, comprehensive and extensive international integration in all fields; strengthen defense diplomacy, develop cooperation with all countries. It is a destination connecting enterprises, research units, production and use of weapons and equipment with potential partners in the defense sector; promising to bring opportunities for cooperation in export and technology transfer for all parties.

Through bilateral seminars and meetings, domestic and foreign defense agencies, units and enterprises will enhance mutual understanding, consolidate trust, promote substantive cooperation, in accordance with the needs and capabilities of each side; contributing to building global peace and stability.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, said that the exhibition will strengthen international cooperation in the defense industry, share experiences, receive and transfer technology, and grasp advanced technological trends in the world so that we can research, design, and manufacture weapons and technical equipment to meet the requirements of military and defense missions in the new situation.

The exhibition also promotes and introduces Vietnam's defense industry, promotes trade, seeks partners and potential markets to participate in the production of defense industry products to reach the world market.

US impressed by Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024

Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, expressed his impression that the exhibition was very professionally organized.

“Today, we are here with equipment, weapons, and personnel to represent the US participation in the event,” said Mr. Paparo. This year’s exhibition will feature the US A-10 Thunderbolt II military aircraft and C-130J transport aircraft. In addition, US defense companies are also attending the event in large numbers.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs Jedidiah Royal emphasized that the large and unprecedented presence at the exhibition clearly demonstrates the US's commitment and strong support for a strong, prosperous, and independent Vietnam in general and the modernization efforts of the Vietnam People's Army in particular.

Maximize the opportunities your equipment offers

Mr. Mark Lancaster, Special Envoy for Defence and Security of the UK Government, is delighted to have the opportunity to attend the Vietnam International Defence Exhibition 2024.

“We have carefully studied Vietnam’s Defence White Paper , which sets out its desire to modernise its armed forces by 2030. Vietnam has also made clear its desire to diversify its defence industry partnerships and the UK is committed to supporting both of these initiatives,” said Mr Lancaster.

Regarding the plan to support Vietnam in modernizing its military, Special Envoy Lancaster said that the UK believes that to realize the process of real defense modernization, three factors are needed: equipment, policy and training. Therefore, the UK Government is very pleased to be able to cooperate with the UK defense industry to help Vietnam develop advanced capabilities to support its modernization goals.

Promote defense cooperation between the parties

Rosoboronexport, the Russian arms export company, showcased Russia’s latest achievements in the defense and security sector at the exhibition. Rosoboronexport General Director Alexander Mikheev said that Rosoboronexport always provides Vietnam with the most advanced, reliable and effective defense products to equip its military and security forces.

Rosoboronexport presents the Typhoon-K multipurpose armored vehicle with the Kornet-EM anti-tank missile system, the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle with additional protection and the Rubezh-ME coastal missile complex.

The exhibition is an opportunity to promote defense cooperation between the parties. Sharing more about this, Mr. Fukawa Hideki, advisor to the Defense Equipment, Technology and Logistics Cooperation Agency under the Ministry of Defense of Japan (ATLA), said that this is the second time the agency and Japanese companies have participated in the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition. “ATLA and Japanese companies participated in the 2022 Defense Exhibition for the first time. Then, in 2023, Japan successfully transferred pre-corrosion treatment technology to the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense,” Mr. Hideki shared.
