Vietnam team's information security battle
The Vietnamese team is preparing differently from its opponents at the AFF Cup 2024. Not counting Indonesia playing in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, most teams such as Thailand, the Philippines, Laos, and Malaysia are taking advantage of the FIFA Days in November to play international friendlies.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team will not compete in the FIFA Days series. The V-League will continue as usual until November 20, after which coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will head to South Korea for training and friendly matches.

The choice for the Vietnamese team to train and play friendly matches in Korea by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has two purposes.
First of all, the cold weather in the land of kimchi is suitable for coach Kim Sang-sik to improve the weak physical foundation of his students. The Vietnamese team has not won in the last 4 matches, with the common point being the inertia and heaviness still existing around the legs of Nguyen Quang Hai and his teammates. The break between the two seasons, the loose physical training at some clubs, the decline in ambition... are the reasons why coach Kim's students have not been able to meet the intensity of the competition.
At the same time, the training trip in Korea and 3 internal friendly matches here will help the Vietnamese team keep information confidential. From the process of training troops, selecting players in training sessions to testing tactics and operating tactics in friendly matches, everything is kept secret in a "foreign country", avoiding the spying eyes of opponents.
According to a member of the Vietnamese team, coach Kim Sang-sik has not imparted a clear philosophy in the past 5 months. Everything is still at the experimental level, with the purpose of testing the Korean coach's ability and motivation of his students. It was not until this training trip that Mr. Kim began to "stuff" physical strength and tactics with high intensity.

Coach Kim Sang-sik's philosophy will be clearly defined in the coming days. However, Mr. Kim will keep the details of how the team operates and implements its playing style a secret. How sharp the Vietnamese team's tactics are will be clear at the AFF Cup.
Waiting for Coach Kim Sang-sik's 'trump card'
"I cannot give a detailed assessment of the Vietnamese team yet, because I have not learned much about them. I do not know what tactics or strategies Mr. Kim will apply. However, when the Vietnamese team has a new coach, it means that if we face each other, I have to be careful," said coach Masatada Ishii of the Thai team in May.
Japanese strategists are known for being humble and diplomatic. However, Coach Ishii's assessment actually speaks to Coach Kim Sang-sik's most powerful weapon: unpredictability.
After 4 matches, Mr. Kim has not yet formed a framework. Everything is still somewhat chaotic and difficult to grasp, both for us and our opponents. The Korean coach can take advantage of that chaos to create a "multi-faceted" team.
Players strive to compete for position
Maybe the Vietnamese team has not played well yet, so they will fall into a situation of playing and fixing as they go at the AFF Cup 2024.
However, Mr. Kim’s students need new moves to surprise their opponents. Unusual moves such as launching attacks from the defense under Coach Park Hang-seo or set pieces under Coach Philippe Troussier (at the Asian Cup) will open up a smooth path for the Vietnamese team to go far.
And amidst the mist of "security" that is currently covering Korea, hopefully the Vietnamese team is preparing some interesting things to welcome their opponents.
