Lecturer Liu Yao has two parallel careers: he is a university lecturer and the lead vocalist of a famous rock band in China, Zuriaake.

Zuriaake's most memorable album, Afterimage of Autumn , was released in 2007, when Liu Yao was still studying for his master's degree. This album combined Western rock and Eastern poetry, creating a strong effect on rock music fans in China.
