Ten Hag: 'There are still many things going against Man Utd'

Coach Erik ten Hag continued to complain about his bad luck when Man Utd were denied a goal in their 1-0 win over Burnley in round six of the Premier League.

"Man Utd played well in some moments against Bayern, Arsenal and then conceded easy goals," Ten Hag said after the win at Turf Moor. "As I said, there were a lot of things that went against Man Utd, and tonight was the same, with the goal that was ruled out. I'm not saying whether it was a valid goal or not, but the decision was against us. There's a lot of things that have gone against Man Utd in the last few weeks, and then there are the injuries, but we have to deal with that."

In the opening match of Group A of the Champions League in midweek, Man Utd created dangerous chances first, but Facundo Pellistri and Christian Eriksen missed close-range shots. The visitors paid the price for wasting their chances, losing 3-4. After the match, Ten Hag criticized his players for lacking concentration and Man Utd should have got a point by scoring three goals.

Previously, the Dutch coach said that the referee team and VAR made three wrong decisions - including recognizing Declan Rice's extra-time goal, causing Man Utd to lose 1-3 at Arsenal in the fourth round of the Premier League on September 3.

At Turf Moor yesterday, Man Utd were a bit behind with 38% possession, 11 shots with four on target - compared to Burnley's 12 and 4, but took better chances. In the 25th minute, Sergio Reguilon took a corner kick for Jonny Evans to head past goalkeeper James Trafford. But VAR intervened and canceled the goal, determining that Rasmus Hojlund was offside and obstructed the Burnley goalkeeper. At the end of the first half, Evans continued to leave his mark with a left-footed pass from midfield for captain Bruno Fernandes to run down and volley one touch across the corner, scoring the only goal of the match.

"This result gives us confidence," Ten Hag said of United's three-game losing streak. "There were a lot of things going against us and you have to overcome adversity. It's up to us. We know that and we saw the answer on the pitch. But it's just a win and we have to keep going."

The 53-year-old coach praised Evans for his personality, composure, and excellent pass to Fernandes for a beautiful goal. Ten Hag rated goalkeeper Andre Onana as excellent, making many saves, while the duo of Hannibal Mejbri and Rasmus Hojlund put good pressure on the team. He also revealed that new signing Sergio Reguilon was sick, but still wanted to play and support the team.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes - who handed over the man of the match award to Evans - said: "The club has great players and great spirit. We were a bit unlucky but the performance was not the best. Today, the whole team showed great spirit."

On September 26, Man Utd returned to Old Trafford to host Crystal Palace in the third round of the League Cup, then met the same opponent in the seventh round of the Premier League four days later.
