According to an announcement on August 20 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the entire process of the spacecraft landing on the surface of the Moon will be broadcast live on the agency's website, state-run television channel Doordarshan and various social media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube.
All schools and educational institutions across the country are requested to actively promote this event to students.
The Chandrayaan-3 probe was launched on July 14, entered lunar orbit on August 5, and then the lander and rover separated from the spacecraft on August 17 to land on the surface of the planet.
The spacecraft is expected to complete its 40-day journey by landing near the Moon's South Pole on August 23, then carry out exploration and experiment missions for two weeks.
Chandrayaan-3, developed at an investment of about $75 million, is the first major mission since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government announced policies to promote private investment in space exploration and business models related to satellite development and launch.
In 2019, ISRO launched the Chandrayaan-2 lunar probe into space, but lost contact with it before its scheduled landing date of September 7, 2019.
