Professional training to strengthen knowledge and skills

Journalist Pham Van Hoc believes that in the process of professional activities and creating their journalistic works, journalists always seek to innovate, update new knowledge and skills, and keep up with modern journalism trends. In addition to what has been systematically trained in the classroom, professional training courses are always very useful in daily work.

Training courses help consolidate the knowledge and skills of journalism that have been trained, providing understanding and methods of organizing and implementing the latest press works, including multimedia and modern works. Especially for journalist members who have not received formal training, such training courses help supplement a lot of useful knowledge and skills for daily work, illuminating theory into their regular work.

Every year, we have organized training courses on professional journalism skills for journalist members. These are not only the courses that the Provincial Journalists Association coordinates with the Center of the Vietnam Journalists Association to invite part-time lecturers to teach, but also many other training courses organized by the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, the Provincial Media Center and the Nguyen Van Cu Cadre Training School. The Standing Committee of the Provincial Journalists Association also regularly maintains a zalo group with a number of members who are journalist members. On this zalo group, a lot of useful information about the plan to organize training courses is regularly updated to help journalist members arrange their time to register for classes. Many lectures and discussion suggestions from lecturers as well as students are also shared to spread more widely. In particular, during the time affected by the covid epidemic, many online or combined online and in-person training classes have been posted on this group so that journalist members can study online without having to travel to class over a long distance and with limited time.

"Suggestions" to improve the quality of training courses

As one of the journalists and members who actively participates in professional training courses, even spending time going to other provinces to learn more experience, journalist Pham Van Hoc tells about the memorable and meaningful professional training course he attended.

Journalist Pham Van Hoc shared: About a week ago, he and other members of the journalist association from Bac Kan went to Lang Son to train with reporters from Lang Son Newspaper. In these training classes, the journalists were shared with many valuable knowledge, skills and experiences in journalism by the lecturers. In particular, many training classes also divided the students into small groups for them to go into practice and present their journalistic works instead of their reports. And the lecturers and other groups will give comments and discuss these journalistic works. That helps the students learn a lot from experienced journalists.

Indeed, the practical experiences conveyed through professional courses are very important, helping journalists in Quang Ninh province to increasingly improve, produce higher quality works, and contribute to the overall development of the province. Of course, organizing quality training courses is the "problem" posed, the main result of which is the constant innovation in content and form.

“For those reasons, we hope that the Provincial Journalists Association will continue to coordinate to organize more professional training courses for journalist members to participate. Professional training courses should invite part-time lecturers who have been directly working in journalism for many years to provide training using the hands-on method, sharing experiences, and sharing roundtable discussions between lecturers, trainees, and representatives of information agencies, if any. Training content should focus on knowledge, skills, and modern journalism methods, new trends, and methods of selecting and developing journalistic works to participate in journalism competitions and awards. Training courses should not be too long but should be enough time for trainees to go into the field and complete their journalism works in groups. We also boldly propose that training should not be organized at the end of the year when the workload is often very heavy,” emphasized Journalist Pham Van Hoc.
