In the Northern region, the price of live pigs today, May 1, 2024, decreased slightly in some localities and fluctuated between 61,000 - 64,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, live pigs in localities including Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc all reduced their purchase price by VND2,000/kg, down to VND62,000/kg, equal to Yen Bai, Ha Nam and Tuyen Quang.

Also recording the above decrease, traders in Ninh Binh brought the price of live pigs down to the lowest level in the region at 61,000 VND/kg.

The remaining localities maintain stable pig prices at a fairly high level.

Latest live pig prices in the Central Highlands region

In this area, the price of live pigs today decreased slightly and is trading in the range of 60,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, after both decreasing by 2,000 VND/kg, live pigs in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces both decreased to 60,000 VND/kg.

Both decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, bringing the price of live pigs in Ha Tinh and Quang Ngai to 60,000 VND/kg.

Similarly, traders in Quang Nam province adjusted down 1,000 VND/kg, and are purchasing live pigs at 61,000 VND/kg.

In the remaining localities, pig prices today did not record any new fluctuations.

In the Southern region, the price of live pigs increased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg due to strong consumption, fluctuating between 60,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.

Accordingly, after increasing by 2,000 VND/kg, traders in Ben Tre purchased live pigs at 63,000 VND/kg - equal to Dong Nai, Vung Tau, Dong Thap and Vinh Long. This is also the highest price in the region.

Adjusting the price up, traders in Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh and Soc Trang all adjusted the purchase price to 61,000 VND/kg.

In the remaining provinces, the price of live pigs remains stable.

Thus, continuously for more than 3 months, the price of live pigs in many localities in the country has tended to recover. Compared to the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, the price of live pigs has increased by a total of more than 10,000 VND/kg and is at its highest level in more than 7 months. In recent days, the price of pigs sold by farmers to traders has been from 60,000 - 64,000 VND/kg. With this price, many households have made a profit. The price of live pigs has increased due to a decrease in supply in many localities compared to previous months because the number of pigs ready for sale is not much, as well as because people have reduced pig farming.

Recently, pig farming has not been profitable because the price of live pigs is low, while the price of animal feed and many input costs are high, so many households have stopped raising pigs, especially small-scale pig farmers. In addition, many pig farmers have also reduced the number of pigs to limit losses due to low prices and risks from diseases, especially African swine fever and blue-ear pig disease that are still present in some places in the country. Recently, the demand for pork in many places is high and tends to increase, creating conditions for the price of live pigs to recover.

Although the price of live pigs has increased compared to previous months, it is still generally low compared to previous years, especially in 2021 and 2022. Therefore, pig farmers expect that the price of live pigs will continue to improve, while the price of feed and input costs for pig farming will be reduced again.
