The People's Committee of Quang Tri province has just sent an official dispatch to the Department of Transport, the Department of Planning and Investment, the Department of Finance, the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, and the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities regarding strengthening the management and maintenance of weak bridges on roads managed by the locality.

Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Transport and localities to strengthen the inspection of regular and periodic maintenance of bridges to promptly detect signs of abnormalities and promptly repair minor damage to maintain the ability to operate in the current state. Organize the inspection of weak bridges under the management responsibility (if necessary) to have a plan to strengthen, repair or renovate and upgrade to ensure the safety of the structure.
At the same time, conduct surprise construction inspections before, during and after the rainy and stormy season according to regulations. The inspection process must ensure conditions for traffic safety and safety for people and vehicles.
The Department of Transport shall preside over and coordinate with the Department of Planning and Investment, the Department of Finance, relevant departments, branches, and localities to review, evaluate, and propose a list of investments to build new bridges to replace weak bridges in the province in order of priority to advise the Provincial People's Committee to consider and report to competent authorities to prioritize investments in the 2026-2030 medium-term plan to exploit synchronously with the load of the route serving transportation, promoting the efficiency of investment capital.
Previously, the Department of Transport counted 87 weak bridges on roads managed by districts and towns in Quang Tri province; 17 weak bridges on national highways under management and provincial roads under management, including 4 bridges on national highways and 13 bridges on provincial roads.
Gio Linh (24 bridges) and Vinh Linh (30 bridges) districts have the largest number of weak bridges; these bridges are located on inter-commune and inter-district roads. A series of new bridges must be built, in priority groups 1 and 2. Due to weak bridges and load capacity limitations, heavy-duty vehicles must take detours, increasing costs and affecting socio-economic development.
For weak bridges on the routes managed by the locality, the Department of Transport proposed that the Provincial People's Committee direct the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to strengthen regular and periodic maintenance inspections to promptly detect abnormal signs and promptly repair minor damage to maintain the ability to operate in the current state.
In the long term, localities are required to review, evaluate, propose priority levels, and report to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration of supplementing medium-term public investment capital for the 2026-2030 period and other legal capital sources to invest in the construction of new replacement bridges.
