On August 1, at the Government Office, Vietnam Airlines officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on enhancing cooperation to connect and develop aviation between Vietnam Airlines Corporation and the Hong Kong Airport Authority (HKIA).
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and Mr. Lee Ka-Chiu - Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China), witnessed the ceremony of handing over the Memorandum of Understanding and congratulated the relevant units.
The Memorandum of Understanding between Vietnam Airlines and the Hong Kong Airport Authority continues to mark an important milestone in cooperation, contributing to further promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Hong Kong. The two sides made many commitments in their efforts towards the common goal of developing flight routes. Specifically, the two sides will cooperate to open new routes, increase frequencies, and supplement capacity to promote trade and tourism. The two sides will also study the establishment of strategic cooperation relationships, stimulate tourism to develop passenger and cargo transport, strengthen the competitiveness of the airport and improve the effectiveness of aviation treaties. Vietnam Airlines and HKIA will coordinate to improve the quality of operations and services by seeking new cooperation opportunities and new forms to maximize the benefits of both sides. At the same time, the two sides will coordinate to participate in sharing practical experiences, new initiatives as well as advanced technology to optimize operational efficiency. Through this partnership, the parties aim to achieve world-class standards in passenger experience and cargo logistics, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. In addition, the two parties will work together to promote sustainable development in the aviation sector through solutions such as optimizing fuel efficiency, minimizing waste and promoting the use of renewable energy.Vietnam Airlines and HKIA cooperate to improve the quality of operations and services through seeking new cooperation opportunities and new forms to maximize the benefits of both parties.
In particular, the two sides will jointly support talent development through training courses provided by the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (HKIAA) in the fields of air transport management, aviation security, crisis management, air traffic control, pilot training and aircraft engineering. HKIAA can provide scholarships for outstanding individuals, thereby nurturing talent and contributing to training high-quality personnel for the aviation industry. Vietnam Airlines began operating the Vietnam - Hong Kong (China) route in November 1991. Over nearly 33 years of operating the route, the airline has served more than 5.7 million passengers on more than 46,000 flights to and from Hong Kong International Airport, helping to promote economic-trade, investment and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Hong Kong (China). Vietnam Airlines is operating 7 round-trip flights per week from Hanoi to Hong Kong. In recent years, the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Hong Kong (China) has been growing strongly with many remarkable achievements. According to 2023 data from the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, the total trade turnover between Vietnam and Hong Kong reached 31.3 billion USD, Vietnam is the 2nd largest trading partner in ASEAN (after Singapore) and the 7th largest globally of Hong Kong. Among Hong Kong's main trading partners worldwide, Vietnam is the 8th largest export market to Hong Kong with a turnover of 17.1 billion USD, and is also the 5th largest import market from Hong Kong with a turnover of 14.2 billion USD. The exchange of delegations between the two sides has also been vibrant with many visits by senior officials of the Hong Kong Government to Vietnam in 2023 to promote cooperation in many important areas including economics, trade, transportation, logistics, financial services and justice.
