Tan Son is a mountainous district located in the Northwest of Phu Tho province with 19 ethnic groups living together; the proportion of ethnic minorities (EM) accounts for over 83.5%. The diverse and unique cultural identity of the locality has been preserved by the people and authorities at all levels for many years.

In recent years, the People's Committee of Tan Son district has restored, preserved, maintained and developed many tangible and intangible cultural values bearing the unique identities of the Muong, Mong and Dao ethnic groups such as: Muong, Dao and Mong ethnic languages; Muong and Dao ethnic costumes; traditional cuisine of the Muong ethnic group; performing arts, folk performances of Vi singing, Rang singing, Dam Duong singing, gongs, Moi dancing and Lap Tinh singing.
The traditional customs, practices and festivals of ethnic minorities are collected and restored such as: Going to the fields festival, new rice, rice procession, Doi festival. Traditional cultural and sports activities are actively promoted and organized in the community such as cultural and sports festivals of ethnic groups, traditional sports competitions, culinary culture festivals, mass art festivals and traditional ethnic costume performances...
In order to preserve the national cultural identity, the People's Committee of Tan Son district has issued a plan and guidelines for the establishment of folk art and traditional art teams in communes, residential areas, and schools in the district. Currently, the district has established 183 folk art and culture clubs with over 3,000 members in the following types: Cham Duong, Vi singing, Rang singing, Chuong dancing, Sinh Tien dancing; Lap Tinh, Khen dancing, Gong singing, Xoan singing, Cheo singing...
From 2020-2023, the district coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize 6 training courses on teaching and guiding the practice of traditional cultural heritage; 1 training course on the art of singing Vi, singing Rang, and Cham Duong for folk culture artisans in communes of the district with 102 students; 3 training courses on building a Muong ethnic folk culture activity club...
In particular, in recent years, the traditional weaving craft of the Muong people has been constantly cared for and restored. Under the stilt house of Chieng hamlet, Kim Thuong commune, Ms. Sa Thi Tam - Head of the Folk Culture Club of Kim Thuong commune shared: The wish of the previous artisans like me is that the traditional weaving craft will be restored and there will be many generations to learn to preserve and pass it on to many future generations.

Since 2022, the district has continuously organized brocade weaving training classes for the Muong people in the area to restore, preserve and promote the cultural values of ethnic minorities that are at risk of fading away. These activities have gradually changed the awareness, thinking and actions of the community towards preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of their people. Thanks to these efforts, in 2024, the traditional craft of brocade weaving of the Muong people in Kim Thuong and Xuan Dai communes was officially included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Within the National Target Program for the Development of Ethnic Minority Areas (Project 6), from 2020-2023, the district has allocated about 2.5 billion VND to support the purchase of equipment for traditional art troupes in villages in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; support the dissemination and popularization of typical traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities; tourism promotion and promotion programs in ethnic minority and mountainous areas combined with research and survey of tourism potential, selection and development of typical tourism products for ethnic minority and mountainous areas; support People's Artisans and Distinguished Artisans of ethnic minorities in the transmission and dissemination of traditional cultural activities and training and fostering of successors...
