(Baoquangngai.vn) - Having participated in voluntary blood donation 5 years ago, up to now, teacher Dao Nhat Khoa (born in 1990), a teacher at Ba To High School, has donated blood nearly 40 times to save people from critical conditions.
We met teacher Dao Nhat Khoa on a day in early May - Humanitarian Month. The first impression when meeting this teacher who has the spirit of voluntary blood donation is his gentle eyes, warm, friendly voice and a smile always on his lips.
Silently giving life
Mr. Khoa has been interested in donating blood since he was a student. However, due to his health condition and insufficient weight, Mr. Khoa was refused. It was not until 2018, when he became a teacher, that Mr. Khoa accidentally learned about the Facebook Quang Ngai Live Blood Bank Club through an introduction that the desire to donate blood to save lives that had always been present in him arose again. He came to the club with the fear of being refused to donate blood because of his poor health. But fortunately, Mr. Nhat Khoa was given the opportunity to participate and successfully donated blood for the first time. From then on, voluntary blood donation to save lives became the reason for the 9x teacher's life.

Recalling his first blood donation, teacher Nhat Khoa excitedly shared, after many years of struggling, my desire to donate blood to help patients has finally come true. I am very happy. Because I know that each drop of blood donated means one more life, one life is saved.
To date, teacher Dao Nhat Khoa has donated his blood 38 times to save lives. He has donated platelets 36 times and whole blood 2 times.

Unlike whole blood donation which only takes 5-10 minutes, each platelet donation usually lasts more than 1 hour, going through the process of separating platelets and then returning the remaining blood cells such as plasma, white blood cells, and red blood cells to the donor's body. In order to donate platelets smoothly, the donor's veins must be of suitable size.
"For whole blood donation, there are many people who are eligible to donate and blood can be stored for a long time, so hospitals can be proactive. However, with platelets, they can only be donated in emergencies and when the patient's condition is critical. That is also the reason why I choose to donate platelets most of the time when donating blood," said Mr. Khoa.
Whenever he hears a phone call with a message that blood is urgently needed, Mr. Khoa travels 60km from Ba To town to Quang Ngai city to donate blood to save people. There are days when he has just come home from work and hasn't had time to eat, is teaching, or even in the middle of the night, Mr. Khoa still puts everything aside to be at the hospital in time to donate platelets to save people, even if they are strangers.
Teacher Nhat Khoa confided that once when he went to the hospital to take care of a relative, he witnessed a patient with low platelet count leading to a life-threatening situation, and also learned that many children with blood diseases had to receive blood transfusions once a month just to prolong their lives. Those images were deeply engraved in my mind and urged me to do something to help these cases.
For that reason, not only directly participating in voluntary blood donation, Mr. Khoa also actively encouraged friends, relatives and colleagues to participate.
Teacher of dreams
For a school in the mountainous area where more than 70% of the students are Hre ethnic people, most of whose families live on agriculture and forestry, and whose circumstances are still very difficult, helping students grasp all the knowledge in the general education program is not easy. However, Tran Thuc Uyen, a student of class 12A1, a student of Mr. Khoa's homeroom class, has achieved the title of "3 Good Students" at the central level. One of the necessary conditions to help Thuc Uyen achieve this proud title is the Third Prize in Chemistry at the provincial level that Uyen just won in the 2021-2022 school year. And the person who trained, prepared the luggage and knowledge of this subject for Uyen to participate in the exam was none other than Mr. Khoa.
Tran Thuc Uyen shared that her achievements in the provincial excellent student competition were largely thanks to the enthusiasm and dedicated guidance of Mr. Nhat Khoa. Not only is he a teacher who wholeheartedly imparts knowledge, Mr. Khoa is also like a relative who always accompanies and encourages her on her journey of self-affirmation and fulfilling her dream.
From the lowlands to the highlands to teach, Mr. Khoa has created dreams for many students in the mountains (In the photo: Student Thuc Uyen sitting in the middle is always enthusiastically guided by Mr. Khoa). |
“Khoa is a young teacher who is not only good at his profession, but is also always enthusiastic and proactive in the work of the Youth Union, Trade Union, and Red Cross of the school and has achieved many outstanding achievements. Regarding the volunteer work of teacher Khoa, the school also welcomes and always creates all conditions for Khoa to be able to devote himself to that passion”, those are the shares of Vice Principal of Ba To High School Dinh Thi Ai Ly. A teacher who is not only dedicated and devoted in the journey of bringing letters to students in the highlands, but also a person who always knows how to live for the community and for society.
As the President of the Red Cross Society of Ba To High School, teacher Khoa is the pioneer in propaganda, mobilization, and organization of volunteer activities to help poor students and families in difficult circumstances. Thanks to his enthusiasm, many gifts, clothes, books, and shoes have been given to disadvantaged students, encouraging them to go to school.
With his efforts and enthusiasm, teacher Khoa has received many Certificates of Merit from the Red Cross Association at all levels for his achievements in the Red Cross movement, achieved the titles of excellent teacher at the provincial level, outstanding young teacher at the provincial level, Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level, Certificates of Merit from the Industry Union... In particular, teacher Dao Nhat Khoa has received twice the Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in the emulation movement of teaching and voluntary blood donation.
Responsible, not afraid of difficulties and hardships in the Association's work and the Red Cross movement, dedicated to professional work, teacher Dao Nhat Khoa is a typical example inspiring society.

Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society Pham Ngoc Thanh expressed that with the spirit of volunteerism and a heart for the community, people like Mr. Khoa have strongly spread humanitarian values through the noble act of donating blood to save people. Each drop of blood donated is not simply a medicine to save people. It is also a heart of love, sharing in the face of misfortune and a motivation to add hope to life for the sick.
Donating blood requires the cooperation of the whole community. It is a journey carrying human love, contributing to making life more meaningful.
