Traffic is another factor that influences altitude choice. Commercial aircraft must follow predetermined routes and altitudes, which are often very crowded. This can lead to delays, diversions, and increased fuel consumption and emissions. Private aircraft have more freedom to choose their routes and altitudes, and often fly more direct and less crowded routes. This saves time, costs, and reduces environmental impact.
