Research firm Precedence Research estimates that the global water purifier market will grow significantly over the next decade.

According to Forbes magazine, the company valued the market at $43.2 billion in 2022 and predicts the figure will nearly triple over the next decade, to $120.38 billion by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.79%.
There is strong evidence to support this assessment.
Drinking water faces many sources of pollution
Research by the non-profit, non-governmental organization Environmental Working Group found that 50% of people surveyed felt their tap water was unsafe to drink, and they had good reason to be concerned.
A recent study by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimates that at least 45 percent of tap water in the United States contains man-made chemicals called PFAS, which stands for perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances.
PFAS are synthetic chemicals, also known as forever chemicals because they do not break down in the environment or the human body. They are commonly found in consumer products such as cleaning products, non-stick cookware, and personal care products such as shampoo, dental floss, and nail polish.
While the effects of PFAS on human health are still being studied, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) points out that they may increase the risk of kidney or testicular cancer, high blood pressure or preeclampsia in pregnant women, and increased cholesterol.
Plus, we’re increasingly facing water problems of our own making—like lead contamination in 25% of California’s schools and child care centers—so people have good reason to distrust the quality of their home tap water.
Clean water is the top urgent issue that needs to be improved.
According to Forbes , despite the best efforts of municipal water treatment facilities, water treatment systems often cannot withstand or remove synthetic contaminants such as PFAS, herbicides, pharmaceuticals, etc.
That is also the reason why many businesses and schools, hotels, gyms or offices increasingly prioritize using water filtration systems at the point of entry, optimal filtration systems in the form of standing cabinets, under-counter, tabletop... to ensure customers, employees and students have clean water to drink.
Of course, unclean tap water is not a problem unique to the United States. Rapid urbanization in developing countries has outpaced the ability of governments to build the necessary infrastructure, creating an urgent need for people to purify their water themselves.
In India alone, a country that has seen a large number of people migrate to urban areas over the past decade, the water purifier market is expected to grow from $2.8 million to over $5 million by 2028.
Growth drivers
The development of the water filtration industry is not determined by just one factor but comes from the increasing demand for clean water globally, along with remarkable advances in water filtration technology. New features that improve the convenience and cleanliness of water make more and more consumers invest in buying home water filters. Specifically:
- Advances in water filtration: Municipal water systems often cannot remove modern contaminants such as pharmaceuticals or PFAS. However, advanced water filtration processes in new water purifiers can remove more impurities and harmful chemicals than previous generations of purifiers.
- Remineralization: In addition to purifying water, some new water purifier products can adjust the taste to suit consumer preferences. Water purifiers can change the taste of water by releasing trace chemicals into the water during the filtration process, and the drinker can adjust the taste to their liking. Additionally, some systems can improve water quality by adding beneficial minerals and alkalizing, electrolyzing water to create fresh alkaline ionized water and oxidizing water.
- Self-cleaning features: Older water filtration systems required a lot of maintenance, but modern water purifiers are largely self-cleaning. Some newer systems use activated oxygen, which can create a chemical-free sanitizing process on stainless steel components, including the tank and internal system, significantly reducing the time and effort required to keep the equipment clean while still maintaining its ability to resist viruses and bacteria.
- Consumer awareness: The final factor driving the adoption of water purifiers is the growing awareness among consumers about the harmful effects of single-use plastic water bottles. The growth of the water purifier market is paralleled by a similar growth in the reusable bottled water market, which is expected to grow to $14.6 billion by 2032.

A market full of challenges and opportunities
Richard Razgaitis, a member of the Forbes Council and CEO and co-founder of water filtration equipment company FloWater (USA), commented: There are currently many companies operating in the water filtration field, causing increasing competition, leading to more innovation, more diverse choices for consumers and more attractive prices.
With the current positive market trend, Mr. Richard believes that there is still much room for growth in the industry as the market is still in the early stages of widespread adoption of water filtration technology.
Fresh alkaline ionized water with RO filtration technology and magnesium electrolysis is also a popular and best-selling product in Vietnam today.
Businesses are now the biggest buyers, meaning the direct-to-consumer market is still largely untapped. As clean water becomes a more pressing issue, people will increasingly want to control the quality of their water supply to feel confident that the water they and their families are drinking is safe and healthy.
Therefore, Mr. Richard believes that future purifier designs should focus on smaller, simpler, more user-friendly devices that are easy to maintain without any specialized knowledge. The more companies can reach consumers directly at their place of residence, the more opportunities they have to develop the market.
