On November 6, OpenAI announced that it will allow users to personalize their artificial intelligence (AI) applications and will open an app store for users to monetize ChatGPT based on usage. With this update, OpenAI provides tools that allow users to create their own virtual assistants that can be sold on the app store to make money.
According to Mr. Dang Huu Son, co-founder of Lovinbot, with OpenAI's new update for ChatGPT, startups providing virtual assistant services in Vietnam are both directly and indirectly affected.
Specifically, the direct impact is that startups providing content using OpenAI's API but no different from ChatGPT, users will switch to buying the Plus package, when this platform supports payment in Vietnam.
According to him, even Lovinbot has an impact, but not too much because the company has long had a unique SEO content feature that is difficult for ChatGPT or other startups to copy, and customers still pay to use it.
Regarding indirect impacts, Mr. Dang Huu Son said that OpenAI has opened up almost the best and most powerful tools for developers to make smarter virtual assistant products, so startups providing virtual assistants are under a lot of pressure, having to find niches that ChatGPT cannot reach. For example, his company's AI Agent mainly focuses on the business segment (B2B), so there are still many opportunities.
Lovinbot representative added that this update creates short-term advantages for startups to make products faster, because OpenAI has integrated the tool, but this also creates a challenge that startups will depend on it.
This is the problem that AI startups have to accept. In the short term, they use this platform until there is a market and customers, then expand to other providers such as Google AI, Vin AI, Anthropic (Claude), to limit dependence.
Mr. Dang Hai Loc, founder of Mindmaid platform, a startup that provides services for Vietnamese businesses to easily create virtual assistants for sales consulting, customer care, internal procedure Q&A, personal virtual assistants... also said that AI startups in Vietnam are greatly affected after this new update, because ChatGPT has done almost everything, better than the startups that are doing it. Mindmaid has also anticipated this, so from the time of creating the product, it has focused on trends rather than specific technological solutions.
At the same time, according to Mr. Dang Hai Loc, the new updates also bring positive results when the market goes up and create advantages such as ChatGPT API costs will decrease, accuracy will increase, speech to text latency will be low... Not to mention, OpenAI will soon open a chatbot Store, creating more channels to make money in the context of economic downturn, this is also a new motivation for people to be interested in AI.
Ms. Hoang Huong, CEO of Unikon Joint Stock Company, the owner of Aicontent platform, believes that these new updates will make startups that are making virtual assistants better, and the market will also improve, because this platform is opening versions and making it easier for people to register. In addition, OpenAI is also opening API for startups to exploit to provide virtual assistant services for businesses.
However, according to Ms. Huong, with these updates, startups that only make products that depend on ChatGPT will face difficulties in the near future and they need to expand to other platforms instead of depending on one side like they do now.
The emergence of ChatGPT has made AI technology in Vietnam develop strongly in recent times, at the same time, many startups related to this technology have also been born to catch up with the trend. Creating content-creating virtual assistants and multi-functional virtual assistants is the way that AI startups in Vietnam are choosing.
