In early 2023, the tree planting program for a green dormitory took place impressively at the Ho Chi Minh City National University dormitory. The launching ceremony was held at the square - Youth Space of the Ho Chi Minh City National University dormitory, where there is a sovereignty landmark of the Truong Sa archipelago. Many trees were planted and flourished to this day, reminding each generation of students who come to board and study at the "common home" of the dormitory to work together to build more green areas.
But we need to fully understand what a "Green Dormitory" is, is it just about planting lots of trees or living green? Talking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Mr. Lai The Tuan, Head of the General Department, Dormitory Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the dormitory has been building a "Green Dormitory" project to be implemented in 3 phases.
The first stage is green awareness. Launch and organize activities and movements among students about environmental sanitation, exchanging plastic waste for trees, organizing green Saturdays, planting trees, sorting waste at source, launching a movement to say no to foam boxes and plastic bags..., gradually raising students' awareness of a green living environment.
Not only cleaning and beautifying their rooms, students at the "Green Dormitory" also have volunteer days to clean up the environment, sort trash, and weed...

Next is phase 2 - green action. Students together deploy green areas in student dormitories, public areas, community learning spaces, learning gardens, dormitory grounds according to the goal of "Clean from the inside out, beautiful from the outside in" dormitories. Launch the planting and care of green trees in offices, desks of civil servants and workers, helping students, civil servants and workers form habits and awareness in protecting the environment and green living and working environment.
"Phase 3 is green culture. We gradually form a green culture and protect the environment in every action and thought of each official, employee, and resident student. Create a cool green space, close to nature, blend into life with nature, friendly to the environment; contribute to building a smart, green university urban area, the identity of Ho Chi Minh City National University", said Mr. Lai The Tuan.
At the same time, every year, the Dormitory Management Center develops a plan to launch the "Green Dormitory" to deploy among civil servants, workers, and boarding students, through the Trade Union, Youth Union, and Veterans Association. The preliminary review, commendation, and reward ceremonies for groups and individuals with outstanding contributions to activities and movements to encourage green living, green action, and green culture in the student community.
Life around is more beautiful when young people live positively and responsibly towards the community.

New generation students
Dynamic, creative, not only maintaining good academic performance but also being responsible to the community and the surrounding environment, that is the new generation of students today.
Nguyen Kim Ngoc, a former student of the Foreign Trade University of Ho Chi Minh City, who used to live in Area B of the Ho Chi Minh National University dormitory, said that despite the long distance by bus between the Foreign Trade University of Ho Chi Minh City in Binh Thanh District and the Area B dormitory in Di An City, Binh Duong, she still chose to stay here for more than 4 years. "The living space is clean, airy, with enough space to study and participate in extracurricular activities, and connect with many friends," Kim Ngoc said about her impression of this place.
However, according to Kim Ngoc, each student also plays an extremely important role in preserving and building a healthy, green, and quality living environment throughout the years in the dormitory. For example, at the Ho Chi Minh City National University dormitory, students will register to participate in at least 1 volunteer day in 1 school year and there is no limit to the number of participations when registering for boarding.
This volunteer day will be included in the criteria for evaluating student training in dormitories and training facilities. During the volunteer day, students will participate in activities such as weeding, planting trees, exchanging plastic waste for trees, sorting waste at source, taking care of trees, etc.
Or on average, every month the dormitory will launch a tree planting and environmental cleaning activity for employees, workers, students, etc.
Green shoots will grow tall, generations of students will enter life with green thinking, healthy lifestyle, and responsibility for themselves and the community.

"On average, every year, more than 12,000 student working days participate in volunteer activities, Green Saturdays to weed, plant trees, clean the campus, buildings where they live and participate in community activities," said Mr. Lai The Tuan.
Not only that, according to Mr. Tuan, the dormitory also regularly organizes competitions on waste recycling, recycled fashion, wrapping and cooking banh chung, banh tet, displaying five-fruit trays on New Year's Day and traditional Tet holidays of the nation... These activities contribute to raising awareness about the environment, cultivating and preserving the traditional cultural beauty of the nation.

Not only focusing on studying and training, the new generation of students are also young people who care a lot about their own health and the health of the community. With the advantage of a large, airy living space, with lots of green space, at the dormitory of Ho Chi Minh City National University, the movement of physical exercise and health training is maintained by students on a daily basis.
Minh Dang, a student at the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), who loves soccer and many other sports, said that the best thing about the dormitory is the student sports competitions at the cluster level (the dormitory has 8 cluster management boards) and the entire dormitory management center. On average, every year, the dormitory organizes 3 to 4 marathon races for students on "School Fest" student festivals, and other important holidays and events.

The dormitory also organizes sports and art teams to participate in mass competitions to build the cultural life of Thu Duc City with a variety of sports such as football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, art festivals, etc. "Here, there are many clubs for you to join, depending on your interests such as music clubs, skateboard clubs, jogging clubs, volunteer clubs...", Minh Dang said.
Mr. Lai The Tuan emphasized that "Green Dormitory" is not only about green areas from trees, from green actions but also about green thinking, healthy living, quality living, healthy living from studying to daily life in the student community.
