This is one of the issues raised at the workshop "Improving the quality of the 5 Good Students movement" held on the afternoon of January 4.
The workshop took place online at 55 locations nationwide, organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association, the Hanoi Student Association in coordination with the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank).
The conference had more than 2,900 delegates participating, with Hanoi alone having more than 300 delegates who achieved central-level titles, outstanding students, and key officials of Hanoi City's units.
Student monks actively participate in the "5 Good Students" movement
Ms. Nguyen Khanh Bao Thuy Vy – Vice President of the Vietnamese Student Association of Tra Vinh University – said that Tra Vinh University is the only school in the country that teaches the Southern Khmer language. Students studying in this department include monks.
The "5 Good Students" movement has 5 criteria including: good ethics, good study, good physical strength, good volunteering and good integration.

The criterion of “good physical fitness” is used to score students who participate in sports competitions such as jogging, swimming, cycling, volleyball, soccer, etc., but monks do not participate in sports competitions.
“We can get points in other applications approved by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association such as jogging, walking, etc. However, these applications are very few and monks rarely use smartphones. In addition, what about other disadvantaged students (disabled - PV)? How can these students meet the title of 5 Good Students?” – Thuy Vy asked.
Thuy Vy suggested that it is necessary to amend and issue a new set of criteria, including separate criteria for special students such as monks or disadvantaged students.
What do you get for being a "5 good student"?
This is a question that many students have asked and require the Vietnam Student Association at all levels to resolve. That was also the opinion of Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet - Secretary of the Central Youth Union, President of the Vietnam Student Association - raised at the conference.

Mr. Triet said that many students do not see the value of the title "5 Good Students". Many students ask: "What do you get from participating in the '5 Good Students' movement?"
According to Mr. Triet, some units are confused about solutions to deploy and organize activities to create an environment for students to practice and strive to achieve titles.
Meanwhile, the training programs in schools are getting shorter and shorter, students only focus on completing credits, paying little attention to the movement. Besides, due to limited access to information, many students do not see the value of the movement.
Mr. Triet suggested that the Vietnam Student Association at all levels need to solve two problems: first, it is necessary to both organize a widespread movement and find outstanding factors to gradually improve the quality and standards of the movement.

The second is to find solutions to recognize students' efforts. Mr. Triet gave an example of first-year students who only achieved 1 or 2 criteria, but had the awareness to practice and strive until the 4th or 5th year to have enough "5 good". Therefore, there needs to be criteria to record the achievements during the time students are striving and practicing.
The title "5 Good Students" is not an exam
Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Students' Association and President of the Vietnam Students' Association in Hanoi, said that the criteria set out in the "5 Good Students" movement are to change students' awareness.

“Achieving the title of ‘5 Good Students’ is not like passing an exam, but we must understand what those criteria are designed for?” – Mr. Hung said.
According to Mr. Hung, the criterion of good ethics is not set to “win this or that award”, but for students to have a strong political stance. The criterion of good study is not to become a good student, an excellent student, but for students to have a foundation of knowledge and a modern, scientific way of thinking.
The criteria for volunteering is not for students to try to participate in all 5 volunteer days, but for students to have the desire to contribute to the community and society.
Or good physical activities are not for students to participate in races or sports competitions, but to practice a healthy lifestyle.
There are also good integration criteria for students to maintain their identity during the integration process.
The title "5 Good Students" is a noble title of the Vietnam Student Association, a crystallization of the "5 Good Students" movement with 5 criteria, including: Good morality, Good study, Good physical strength, Good volunteering and Good integration.
From 2018 to 2023, 2,046,593 students registered to participate in the "5 Good Students" title. Of which, 99,327 students achieved the "5 Good Students" title at the school level, 9,908 students achieved the "5 Good Students" title at the provincial level and 1,094 students achieved the "5 Good Students" title at the central level.
