A survey of supermarket systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City shows that most consumer products have been heavily discounted.
At Go! and Big C, fresh food, dried food, frozen goods, household goods, health care products... are discounted up to 50%. Customers who order online from 400,000 VND will receive a 25,000 VND discount code and many gifts.
Co.opmart and Co.opXtra also quickly got back into business and reopened. These two chains imported 5 tons of fresh chicken, along with livestock meat, processed snakehead fish (roasted, grilled...) to serve the shopping needs on the first day of the year.
Prices of food items here have slightly decreased compared to the Tet holiday, such as each kilogram of frozen whole free-range chicken is 86,000 VND, roasted snakehead fish is 119,000 VND, roasted pork belly is 319,000 VND...
Similar to food, fruits and vegetables (cabbage, broccoli, Dalat lettuce...) are discounted by 10 - 30% by this supermarket chain on the first day of sale after Tet to attract customers.
Despite being open and offering many promotions, supermarkets said that purchasing power at the beginning of the year is still low because people are still on vacation, mainly going to wish each other a happy new year and going on spring outings. "The number of customers coming to the supermarket is sparse, most of them just come to visit," said a representative of Co.opmart.
Besides supermarkets, convenience store chains such as Family Mart, GS25, Kingfood Mart... still operate 24/7, without price increases or surcharges.
