Shopee talks about applying new fees from April 1

A representative of Shopee Vietnam said that the fee structure adjustment is part of Shopee's efforts to improve service quality, bringing the best experience to both buyers and sellers on the platform. The new fee structure is built on the basis of thorough market research, the company also continuously listens to feedback to make adjustments, aiming to build a healthy competitive e-commerce environment and sustainable development.

A representative of Shopee Vietnam said that free shipping is one of the important factors that motivate consumers to shop online. After listening to opinions from sellers about the new fee applied from April 1, 2025, Shopee Vietnam wants to provide a more specific perspective on this fee.

Accordingly, in early March, Shopee updated its policy for sellers outside of Shopee Mall, including changing the fixed fee structure. This adjustment aims to simplify the fee structure for sellers.

Specifically, the fixed fee applied after April 1, 2025 will include the shipping service fee (customized for each product category to ensure the total cost is reasonable). Thereby, Shopee will provide a shipping fee promotion for the entire floor, with a series of free shipping codes worth up to 500,000 VND applicable to all sellers.

According to statistics, free shipping is one of the important factors that promote online shopping behavior. Figures show that before April 1, 2025, more than 90% of orders sold via Shopee were applied with free shipping codes when paying for products. Internal data shows that sellers participating in Freeship Xtra can increase revenue by 2-5 times and the number of orders recorded a significant increase.

In addition, more than two-thirds of Shopee sellers have joined the Freeship Xtra program, with a service fee equivalent to 6% of a maximum of VND50,000 calculated on the selling price of each product. Thus, after April 1, 2025, most sellers will only see an insignificant fixed fee increase or no change at all.

“Integrating the shipping service fee into the fixed fee to apply free shipping to all transactions will contribute to enhancing the shopping experience more seamlessly, conveniently, economically and positively for buyers. The change in the fixed fee structure is offset by the expanded free shipping program and will not create significant changes for the majority of sellers,” said a Shopee representative.

After April 1, 2025, the total payment fee for the platform will be adjusted to 6.5% - 15% (excluding service fees for the Xtra Voucher Package and Xtra Content Package) instead of 12% - 15% as before, depending on the industry.

Many industries have reduced fees

A representative of Shopee Vietnam said that, by following the specific fee table for sellers not belonging to Shopee Mall below, it can be seen that for some product categories, Shopee's change in fee structure means that the total fee that sellers pay to the platform after April 1, 2025 will be lower than before April 1, 2025.

Specifically, for the computer and laptop, phone and accessories (including phones and tablets) industry before April 1, the total fee was 12% (including Freeship Extra service fee), after April 1, it decreased to only 6.5%. Similarly, for other electronics industries (including Freeship Extra), the fee decreased from 14% to 12%...

The sports and outdoor, watches, travel and luggage categories will see a 1% reduction in total fees, from 15% to 14%. Other categories such as health, mother and baby, home and living, will also see a reduction in fees from 15% to 14.5%. The two categories of cars and motorbikes will see a reduction from 15% to only 9%.

However, for the remaining product lines, there is an average fee increase of about 6% if the seller does not participate in the Freeship Extra package.

Summary of fees for non-Shopee Mall sellers divided by product category (excluding Xtra Voucher Package and Xtra Content Package service fees). Fees are calculated on Shop orders that are successfully delivered or have a Return and Refund request that is accepted for immediate refund (except for the reason of Not Received Item).
