Close to the base, close to Agent Orange victims

Mr. Tran Van Nhu, Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be district, presented gifts to Victims of Agent Orange.

At the same time, do a good job of advising local Party committees and authorities to build an increasingly strong Association associated with mobilizing resources to care for, help and create livelihoods for families of Agent Orange victims as well as the victims themselves.

Especially families with seriously ill AO victims, those who have lost their ability to work, and those living in extremely difficult and deprived conditions need the help of the community to have the conditions to improve their lives.

The Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be District is one of the district-level Associations leading the emulation movement “For Victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam” launched by the Central Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam. Over the past 10 years, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be District at all levels has regularly strengthened the information and propaganda work of Directive 43 to all classes of people. The propaganda content is integrated into the activities of political and social organizations, neighborhoods, hamlets; visits and gift giving to Victims of Agent Orange, etc.

The Association has gradually socialized the work of mobilizing resources to join hands to support and help ease the pain of Agent Orange. Currently, in Cai Be district, there are 2,568 victims of Agent Orange, of which 248 people participated in the resistance war and were exposed and passed on the disease to their children and grandchildren, the rest are civilians.

Mr. Tran Van Nhu, Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be district, said that in order to fulfill its functions and tasks, first of all, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange at all levels in the district must constantly improve its organization, innovate its activities, actively propagate and mobilize towards the grassroots level, and grasp the circumstances of each victim's family in order to promptly take measures to support and help.

For example, in My Duc Dong commune, there are families of AO victims such as Ho Thi Nga (in My Hung A hamlet), Nguyen Thi Phu (in My Phu hamlet)... families with many victims, life is very difficult. Or in An Huu commune, there are families of Lam Nhat Thi (in hamlet 1), Tong Nguyen Anh Thu (in hamlet 3), 2 families with seriously ill AO victims... These are addresses that are regularly cared for and helped by officials and members of the Association of AO victims in Cai Be district.

Currently, Cai Be district has 25/25 Associations of Victims of Agent Orange at the commune and town level; 111/111 sub-associations at hamlets and neighborhoods, with a total of 1,827 members. The highlight of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be district is that in its activities, cadres and members have promoted their role in seeking the leadership of local Party committees and authorities on policies and guidelines for Victims of Agent Orange to guide the Association's specific tasks and activities; at the same time, promoting the mobilization of resources to support and assist victims.

Accordingly, every year, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be district has mobilized more than 1.5 billion VND from agencies, units, and benefactors inside and outside the province. Most recently, in 2024, the district Association at all levels mobilized more than 2 billion VND...

From mobilized resources, depending on each specific case of Agent Orange victims, the Association of Agent Orange Victims at all levels in Cai Be district organizes the construction and donation of "Agent Orange Shelters"; grants scholarships to students who are children of Agent Orange victims; gives gifts and helps with livelihoods for victims and their families; donates wheelchairs and rocking chairs to disabled victims...

It can be said that the work of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be district in recent years has brought practical results for Victims of Agent Orange, so there are more and more kind hearts, philanthropists, agencies and units inside and outside the province joining hands to help victims overcome the pain of illness and poverty.

The highlight of the activities is that the staff and members always show high determination with the goal of "For the Vietnamese Agent Orange Victims". Focusing on the grassroots, being close to the victims, being close to each family's circumstances to encourage and comfort, helping the victims have more strength to overcome difficulties.

At the same time, the Association regularly builds and consolidates its organization, innovates its methods of operation, especially in the work of informing and propagating Directive 43 and the work of caring for victims associated with the socialization of resource mobilization, thereby bringing the Association's activities increasingly into depth and quality.

With the achieved results, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be district is highly appreciated by the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Tien Giang province, local Party committees and authorities; it is one of the leading units of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange at district level in the province to carry out the emulation movement "For Victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam" every year.

The Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be District is also a bright spot in the effective implementation of Directive 43 of the Secretariat. The achievements of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Be District in recent times have been recognized through the awarding of many Certificates of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Tien Giang Province, and the People's Committee of Cai Be District.
