At this time, the Christmas atmosphere has filled the streets, especially Hang Ma (Hanoi). The Christmas decoration market has been put on the shelves with a variety of designs and colors.

Many new models on the market, prices "increase" slightly
This year, the most sought-after items are still familiar items such as plastic pine trees, bows, bells, etc. This year, the market price has not fluctuated much, ranging from a few tens of thousands to millions of VND for each different product.
According to a survey, traders said that prices of goods this year increased slightly compared to last year at less than 10%.
Ms. Nguyen Mai - owner of a stationery and accessories store in Cau Giay district said that this year, the products are mainly familiar traditional items, but manufacturers have updated trends to create a variety of new designs and models to attract customers.
According to Ms. Mai, the prices of Christmas decoration products are quite stable. “Plastic pine trees cost from 400,000 to 5 million VND/depending on size; tinsel strings, gift boxes, bows... to hang pine trees have retail prices from 3,000 to 50,000 VND depending on size and type; models of snowmen, reindeer, Santa Claus... cost from 150,000 to 800,000 VND depending on size,” Ms. Mai said.
To prepare for the Christmas decoration market this year, traders had to prepare very early. Mr. Duc Anh - owner of a decoration store on Hang Ma Street (Hanoi) - said: "We planned to import goods 4-5 months ago to have good quantity and cheap price. Since the beginning of November, after Halloween, shops on Hang Ma Street have put Christmas decoration products on the shelves."
Green products become a trend
The 2024 Christmas decoration market will become more diverse thanks to the "contribution" of "green" and nature-friendly products. Not just a matter of aesthetics, these "green" products also carry the message of protecting the planet and encouraging a sustainable lifestyle.
Decorations such as snowflakes, baubles or wreaths made from recycled paper, scrap wood or old fabric are very popular this Christmas season because of their unique appearance and also because they protect the environment.

Nguyen Van Nam, a Hanoi-based handicraft maker, believes that this trend not only meets aesthetic needs but also helps raise awareness about environmental protection. “We use old newspapers to make Christmas cards and decorative hangings. Customers are very supportive because they feel they are contributing to a bigger goal,” he said.
According to Mr. Nam, these handmade products are also good for health because they are extracted from nature. "From wreaths made from pine branches and bay leaves to scented candles extracted from beeswax, these items bring a rustic, close feeling, and are not harmful to health," said Mr. Nam.
This handmade decoration item also opens up promising startup opportunities for many young people. Setting up a small stall of handmade Christmas decorations on Nguyen Phong Sac Street, Nguyen Thao Phuong (20 years old, Hanoi) shared that she takes advantage of familiar materials in the family to recycle into small, pretty decorations.
“Bottles, corks or leftover fabric that seem to have no value are actually valuable materials for making decorative items. Products made from these materials are both cost-effective and help protect the environment,” Phuong said.
However, these “green” products are often more expensive than traditional products due to the special materials. A laurel wreath made from recycled fabric can be sold for 250,000 - 500,000 VND, significantly higher than products made from synthetic plastic, which cost only about 100,000 - 200,000 VND.
Similarly, a Christmas bell made from recycled ceramics costs between VND300,000 and VND600,000, depending on the design and sophistication. This price not only reflects the effort put into the product, but also affirms its artistic value and environmental protection significance.
Despite the higher price, consumers still prefer and gradually switch to using “green” products because of their sustainable value. Ms. Thu Dong (20 years old, Hanoi) shared: “Last year, I bought a set of Christmas decorations made from bamboo and cotton fibers for more than 1 million VND. However, this year I can still reuse them without having to buy new ones.”
Sharing the same thought, Ms. Tran Hoang Dieu Linh (27 years old, Hanoi) shared: “Every year I look for and choose environmentally friendly decorations, such as wreaths made from dried leaves or natural candles. Not only are they beautiful, but they also make me feel like I am doing something useful.”
According to the survey, green products are not just a short-term trend but are gradually becoming the new standard in sustainable consumption.
