Sa Pa and other destinations near Hanoi, easily accessible by car, are attracting large numbers of tourists during the New Year holiday.
In the northern region, statistics from the Mustgo booking platform with 2,000 hotel partners nationwide show that Ha Long cruises are almost fully booked, mainly with international guests.
Mr. Bui Thanh Tu, Marketing Director of Best Price, also said that groups booking "last minute" were full. During the New Year holiday, Best Price recorded more than 1,000 bookings with a total of 3,000 guests for the Ha Long Bay cruise product - all of whom were foreign guests. Guests still maintain the habit of booking early, the company recorded the first booking from November 2022. According to Mr. Tu, foreign guests always consider Ha Long Bay as a top destination for vacations, especially New Year's Day.
Another place that this platform also recorded with a room occupancy rate of up to 90% is Sa Pa. 5-star hotels in Sa Pa basically reached 70% room occupancy, all cheap room categories were sold out. The 3-4 star segment is almost full.
Ha Giang is also a place with a high possibility of being "sold out" of rooms during the upcoming holidays. A representative of the Ha Giang Tourism Association said there are no complete statistics yet, but members all recorded "very crowded, many places are full". Mr. Lai Quoc Tinh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of H'Mong Village, said that the facility has sold out of rooms from December 30 to January 1, 2024.
For the Da Nang - Hoi An area, Mustgo data shows that room occupancy is at a fairly good level, ranging from 40-60% in Da Nang and 85-90% in Hoi An. Hotel rooms near the Da Nang beach are more popular than in the city.
Some destinations in the southern region also benefit from the influx of international visitors such as Phu Quoc and Nha Trang. A representative of Mustgo said that the 5-star segment in Phu Quoc has an average occupancy rate of over 80%, while the 3-4 star segment is almost fully booked. Vietnamese guests only account for 20% of the total number of guests booking rooms in Phu Quoc during this period.
In Nha Trang city, international 5-star hotels have reached 90% occupancy, Vietnamese 5-star hotels about 30%. In Cam Ranh area, the international 5-star segment reached 90% thanks to both international and group guests, the Vietnamese 5-star segment is similar in Nha Trang city.
In Phan Thiet, the average occupancy rate is around 45-60% due to the resorts mainly serving the needs of vacationers. Mustgo said some hotels do not charge extra fees and require a minimum stay of two nights during this time, similar to other peak periods.
However, the room occupancy rate in Ha Long city is only about 30-40%. The reason is that the north is entering the cold season, which is not suitable for beach activities. Records from the Mustgo platform show that the room occupancy rate in Thanh Hoa is also not high during this period.
Mr. Nguyen Nhat Vu - Vice President of Lam Dong Tourism Association, said that Da Lat has seen a decrease in domestic tourists during this year's holiday, possibly due to economic problems. Reports from the association indicate that room occupancy rates at small hotels are only at 50%, while the 3-star and above segment is relatively stable. Meanwhile, a representative of Dalattourist, a large travel agency in Da Lat, said that the number of customers booking at restaurants in their system has decreased by 50% compared to the same period last year.
Best Price's air ticket data shows that the round-trip airfare from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat from December 29 to January 1 is around VND3.8 million, up 1.6 times compared to the beginning of the month and 1.1 times compared to a week earlier. The lowest round-trip airfare from Hanoi from December 29 to January 1 is around VND4.6 million, while the average price on weekdays is around VND2.5 million - according to data from Google.
Another locality that is also forecasting a decline in visitors is Vung Tau - with an average room occupancy rate of only 30%, according to Mustgo. In the Ho Tram area alone, the number of rooms at resorts is almost sold out thanks to the influx of golfers. A representative of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Tourism Association also predicted a decrease in visitors this year, mainly because visitors from Ho Chi Minh City have many other options and the general economy is poor.
