When Tet comes, everyone wants to return home to their families and gather around a warm meal. But for the workers at the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang Expressway construction site, this spring is a Tet away from home.

Sticking to the construction site during Tet

During the recent Lunar New Year holiday of At Ty 2025, when every family was busy preparing for Tet, the working atmosphere at the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway construction site was still bustling. Hundreds of workers and engineers put aside their joy of reunion and stayed at the construction site to ensure the progress of the project. For them, this road is not only a project, but also a responsibility, a passion and a hope for a future development for the land at the head of the Fatherland.

During the past 9 days of Tet holiday, machinery and workers at the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway construction site never stopped, the sounds of excavators, rollers, and trucks still echoed throughout the construction sites. Workers in protective suits covered in mud, still persevered in construction despite the harsh weather. All shared the same determination to "complete the project on schedule, helping people travel more conveniently".

The sound of machinery still resounded throughout the recent Lunar New Year holiday throughout the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang highway construction site.

For many workers, this is not the first Tet they are away from their families. Mr. Tran Van Thuan, Head of the Testing Department of Deo Ca Group, in charge of Package 24 in Ham Yen District (Tuyen Quang), sadly shared: "I have two children, the older one is 7 years old, the younger one is 3. This Tet I cannot go home, I can only call home to see my children through the phone screen. My children keep asking when their father will come back, I feel so sorry for them. But I have to accept it, the project needs me, so I have to try."

Mr. Nguyen Viet Dat, another worker at Deo Ca Group, said: "Tet or not, progress is still the most important. Here, everyone understands their responsibilities. If everyone tries a little, the project will be completed soon, helping people travel more conveniently.

Moreover, although we are far from home, we workers are very affectionate, and the New Year's Eve meals are also held right at the construction site. The meals are not as full as at home, but there are still banh chung, pickled onions, and words of encouragement to each other to try hard.

Workers are still working hard at the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang highway construction site.

Many other workers shared the same sentiments. They missed home, missed the Tet meal, missed the family atmosphere with their parents, wives and children. But because of work and responsibility, they chose to stay to contribute to an important project.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, a construction worker at Package 04, the section through Bac Quang district (Ha Giang), shared: "It has been three years since I celebrated Tet away from home. My wife and children in the countryside are also sad, but I am used to it. Right after the Tet holiday, the workers immediately returned to the construction site, ready for the task of completing the highway in 2025.

We, the workers, are also very happy because during the Tet holidays, Chairman of Ha Giang Province Phan Huy Ngoc visited, encouraged and gave us Tet gifts.

Construction during Tet

When peach blossoms bloom in the mountains of Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang, when people are looking forward to the day the new road opens, workers are still working diligently. For them, spring is not only the moment of transition to a new year, but also the hope for a new journey, a more developed future for the land at the headland of the Fatherland.

Therefore, the pace of work at the construction site has not decreased. With the motto "3 shifts, 4 shifts", "working through holidays, Tet, and days off", the contractors have organized continuous construction to ensure progress.

Now that the holiday is over, machinery and human resources are being mobilized to the maximum to ensure the project's progress."

Right after the Tet holiday, at the 20 km long package 20, construction of the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway, the section passing through Tu Quan commune (Yen Son); Thai Hoa, Thanh Long (Ham Yen), constructed by Truong Son Construction Corporation and Thanh Hung Investment and Construction Company Limited, the labor atmosphere continued to take place urgently.

The unit is actively leveling the ground, digging and filling the roadbed, constructing drainage works, casting components and doing concrete-related work such as underpasses, box culverts... striving to complete the drainage system along the entire route, at the same time completing the roadbed and underpasses for people, ensuring the next construction steps.

Up to now, the construction progress of the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway project, phase 1, the section through Ha Giang province has exceeded the set schedule, the construction value has reached over 1 trillion VND, reaching 46% of the contract value.

In Tuyen Quang province, localities have handed over nearly 64km of land to the construction unit, reaching over 92% (of which Yen Son district has 0.6km left, Ham Yen has more than 5.4km left); total disbursement output reached 1,234.6/4,789.7 billion VND, reaching nearly 26%.

The Ha Giang - Tuyen Quang Expressway project, the section through Tuyen Quang province, is 77km long, with a total investment of VND6,800 billion. The project started in October 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The project starts at the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway intersection with National Highway 2D, and ends at Tan Quang commune (Bac Quang, Ha Giang). Recently, the Government also assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to guide Tuyen Quang province to adjust the investment policy to increase to 4 lanes.
