New standards for car and motorcycle license plates

(Dan Tri) - From January 1, 2025, car and motorbike license plates will be implemented according to the standards specified in Circular No. 81/2024/TT-BCA.

The Ministry of Public Security has just issued Circular No. 81/2024/TT-BCA on National Technical Regulations on vehicle license plates, effective from January 1, 2025.

This regulation stipulates the structure, specifications, technical requirements, testing, sample storage, preservation, production of license plates; recognition of test results and implementation organization for license plates of motor vehicles and specialized motorbikes.

Accordingly, the standard stipulates that license plates are made of aluminum alloy; have reflective film, ink (or paint); the security symbol of the Public Security is clearly embossed; the letters, numbers and symbols are embossed with a height of 1.7mm (±0.1).

The license plate ensures the correct size, quality and security; the letters and numbers are sharp, do not smudge the ink, and the information is easily recognizable; the reflective film is glued to the aluminum alloy plate without air holes. The entire series of letters and numbers are arranged symmetrically on the license plate.

For cars, the short license plate is 330x165mm in size, with four rounded corners. The Police badge is stamped in the middle of the two rows of letters, numbers above and below, 5mm from the left edge.

The long license plate has dimensions of 520x110mm, with four rounded corners. The Police emblem is located above the horizontal line, with the top edge of the Police emblem aligned with the top edge of the series of letters and numbers.

The motorcycle license plate is 190x140mm in size, with four rounded corners. The Police security symbol is stamped above the horizontal line on the top row of the motorcycle license plate, 5mm from the top edge of the license plate.

This standard also regulates the color of license plates, as follows:

White and yellow background license plates with black outline, letters, numbers and characters.

Blue background license plate with white border, letters, numbers and characters; white background license plate with red letters, black border, numbers and characters.
