Documents you need to carry when driving a car or motorbike
Pursuant to Article 58 of the Road Traffic Law 2008, drivers participating in traffic must be of the age and health specified in Article 60 of the Road Traffic Law 2008 and have a driving license appropriate to the type of vehicle they are allowed to drive issued by a competent state agency. Learners must practice driving on a driving practice vehicle and have a driving instructor to assist them.
Drivers must carry the following documents when driving:
- Vehicle registration;
- Driving license;
- Certificate of technical safety and environmental protection inspection for motor vehicles;
- Certificate of civil liability insurance of motor vehicle owner.
Motorcyclists participating in traffic must carry the following documents:
- Vehicle registration;
- Driving license;
- Certificate of civil liability insurance of motor vehicle owner.
How much is the fine for forgetting to bring your driver's license?
In case of having a driver's license for a car or motorbike but not carrying it when driving in traffic, the fine will be at the following levels:
(1) Penalty for not having a driver's license when driving a motorbike:
Pursuant to Point c, Clause 2, Article 21 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP, amended by Decree 123/2021/ND-CP, drivers of motorbikes and similar vehicles without a driver's license shall be fined from VND 100,000 to VND 200,000.
(2) Penalty for not having a driver's license for a car:
Pursuant to Point a, Clause 3, Article 21 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP, amended by Decree 123/2021/ND-CP, drivers of cars, tractors and similar vehicles without a driver's license shall be fined from VND 200,000 to VND 400,000.
How old do you have to be to get a motorbike (A1) and car (B1 and B2) license?
Clause 1, Article 60 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law stipulates the age of drivers as follows:
- People aged 16 years or older are allowed to drive motorbikes with a cylinder capacity of less than 50 cm3;
- People aged 18 years or older are allowed to drive two-wheeled motorbikes, three-wheeled motorbikes with a cylinder capacity of 50 cm3 or more and vehicles with similar structures; trucks, tractors with a load capacity of less than 3,500 kg; passenger cars with up to 9 seats;
- People aged 21 years or older are allowed to drive trucks and tractors with a load capacity of 3,500 kg or more; drive class B2 vehicles pulling trailers (FB2);
- People aged 24 years or older are allowed to drive passenger cars with 10 to 30 seats; drive class C vehicles pulling trailers and semi-trailers (FC);
- People aged 27 years or older are allowed to drive passenger cars with more than 30 seats; drive class D vehicles pulling trailers (FD);
- The maximum age for drivers of passenger cars with more than 30 seats is 50 years old for women and 55 years old for men.
Thus, based on the above regulations, motorbike driving licenses (A1) and car driving licenses (B1 and B2) will be issued to people aged 18 and over when meeting the conditions prescribed by law.
