Compared to previous years, the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring rice crop in Quang Ngai has both a good harvest and good prices.

In recent days, Quang Ngai farmers have been urgently harvesting the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring rice crop. Although this crop is unfavorable because many areas have been damaged by rats, farmers are very excited because the rice crop is bountiful and the price is good.

In Dong Yen 2 village (Binh Duong commune, Binh Son district), farmers are mobilizing all their family's manpower to harvest rice, dry it and then sell it to traders. Combine harvesters are also operating at full capacity to harvest according to the people's registration list.

“This year, my family planted 2 sao, each sao is 500m2, not only achieving high productivity but also the quality of the rice this crop is very good, the grains are large and firm. The average rice yield here is more than 65 quintals/ha, some places are higher” - Ms. Pham Thi Mai (Dong Yen 2 village) shared.

According to many farmers, this winter-spring rice crop, thanks to favorable weather, rice yields in many fields are higher than the same period last year.

Winter-Spring rice crop 2023-2024 has quite high yield.

In particular, the price of each quintal of rice is currently being bought by traders at about 900,000 VND, about 100,000 VND/quintal higher than the same period in 2023, making rice growers very excited.

“The previous rice crops often had a good harvest but low prices, and good prices but bad harvest. In addition, the prices of materials and fertilizers also increased, making farmers worried about losses. But this winter-spring crop had both a good harvest and good prices, so everyone was happy and had more motivation to stick with the fields for production,” said Mr. Huynh Trung (Nghia Trung commune, Tu Nghia district).

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), in the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring crop, Quang Ngai farmers sowed nearly 37,900 hectares of rice; of which more than 3,780 hectares of early rice have been harvested, more than 29,800 hectares of main-season rice are being harvested and 4,600 hectares of late-season rice are in the green-to-ripe stage. It is estimated that the yield of early-season rice is about 56-57 quintals/ha, and that of main-season rice is about 63-64 quintals/ha.

Short-term rice varieties such as Bac Thinh, Thien Huong 6, MT10... are varieties encouraged by authorities in Quang Ngai because they have high yield and delicious taste, and are popular in the market.

To achieve the above results, right from the beginning of the season, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been proactive in consulting and guiding localities and farmers to organize winter-spring crop production according to the crop schedule, variety structure and good care.

In particular, promptly advise the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province to arrange funds to support rat extermination work. Thanks to that, it helps farmers win the Winter-Spring crop.

Quang Ngai strives to harvest the entire 2023-2024 Winter-Spring rice area by April 25.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai, Nguyen Quang Trung, said that currently, the provincial agricultural sector is continuing to direct localities and production units to mobilize human resources, machinery and equipment, speed up the harvest of the winter-spring rice crop, striving to complete the harvest of the entire area by April 25.
