Purchasing power increases
The pressure of COVID-19 has gradually been relieved, the economy is more stable, so people want to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2025 fully and properly. Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hong (Cam Nam ward, Hoi An city) said that on the occasion of the upcoming Tet holiday, her family will buy many traditional goods such as kumquats, flowers, banh tet, ginger jam, pork, sausages, etc. Ms. Hong prefers health protection products such as lemongrass essential oil, ginger, cinnamon, and refined medicinal herbs.
“I buy Tet products through markets, supermarkets, shopping malls and e-commerce platforms. I choose to buy Tet products that meet the requirements of protecting health, preserving cultural beauty and bringing a warm family feeling,” said Ms. Hong.
Observing markets and supermarkets in the province, we noticed that goods were abundant and varied. Ms. Trang Thi Kim Nhu - a pork vendor at Tam Ky market said that at the end of the year, consumer purchasing power increased, and more goods were sold.
In addition to pork, Ms. Nhu also sells spring rolls, sausages, and spices. Trading at Tam Ky market has been more bustling in recent days. Beef, seafood, fruits, rice, cooking oil, and various drinks have also increased in purchase.
Purchasing power has increased but the prices of goods and food, especially essential goods, remain stable. Currently, the price of chicken is over 80,000 VND/kg for industrial chicken, over 100,000 VND/kg for domestic chicken. The price of red tilapia is 60,000 VND/kg. The price of squid is over 130,000 VND/kg.
Prices of fruits and vegetables are quite stable. Prices of goods are stable thanks to businesses proactively preparing abundant supplies to serve consumers' shopping needs at the end of the year and during Tet.
As at Co.opMart Tam Ky, the business is preparing more than 75 billion VND worth of goods to sell before, during and after Tet At Ty 2025. Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Lai - Director of Co.opMart Tam Ky said: "When shopping demand increases, we will provide more goods. Commercial transportation is now very convenient, ready to meet consumer needs."
Market stability
According to Ms. Do Thi Hien - Head of Trade Management Department (Department of Industry and Trade), the unit is surveying the year-end and Tet markets, studying the supply and demand of essential goods, especially those with high demand or price fluctuations, to have a plan to ensure supply and demand balance and stabilize the market. The provincial industry and trade sector is advising the provincial People's Committee on a plan to prepare goods sources and reserve essential goods for the Lunar New Year 2025.
The unit is mobilizing businesses to commit not to increase prices for Tet goods and organize mobile shipments to remote areas to serve all classes of people in all regions to shop for goods. The industry and trade sector encourages businesses, convenience store owners, and mini supermarkets to implement promotional programs to stimulate consumption during Tet.
The end of the year, the Tet holiday is the time when smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, and goods of unknown origin easily enter the market. Mr. Luong Viet Tinh - Director of the Quang Nam Market Management Department said that the unit is prioritizing market inspection and control activities and preventing trade violations.
Market management teams in localities proactively monitor and grasp information of businesses and production establishments to promptly prevent smuggling, counterfeit goods, and goods of unknown origin. According to Mr. Tinh, market management forces in the province are simultaneously implementing peak plans to combat smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods before, during, and after the Lunar New Year 2025, control the quality and prices of goods and services, and protect the rights of consumers.
Quang Nam Market Management Department closely coordinates with functional sectors to actively implement professional measures to stabilize the market and recommends that consumers need to be vigilant, carefully identify and avoid counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, and goods of unknown origin.
“The number of violations and handling in the e-commerce environment is constantly increasing and is forecast to become more complicated. Violations are not only in regular consumer goods but also in many functional foods, cosmetics, medicines, electronic cigarette products... We are strictly controlling commerce in cyberspace to protect consumers and stabilize the market,” said Mr. Tinh.
