According to the decision, Quang Nam province will dredge the inland waterway of the Truong Giang River from An Lac junction (Cua Dai) to Cua Lo (An Hoa Bay) with a total length of 60km (starting point from An Lac junction (Cua Dai - Thu Bon) and ending point Cua Lo (An Hoa Bay). Build embankments at locations at risk of bank erosion, combine anchoring fishing boats to avoid storms; move and add buoy systems and waterway markers.
When completed, the Truong Giang River route will meet the standards of level IV rivers according to the inland waterway infrastructure planning, ensuring effective exploitation for ships with a tonnage of up to 100 tons traveling in 2 lanes.
In this project, 6 new bridges will be constructed and a residential bridge across the Truong Giang River will be restored. These include Binh Duong Bridge, Hung My Bridge, Binh Nam Bridge, Tinh Thuy Bridge, Tam Thanh Bridge and Tam Tien Bridge.
In addition, Quang Nam will invest in a complex of flood drainage works in Tam Ky city, connecting from Dam River lake to Truong Giang river with a length of about 2.38km.
The Truong Giang River is more than 70km long, running along the coast through Duy Xuyen, Thang Binh, Nui Thanh districts and Tam Ky city. This used to be an important waterway of Quang Nam province, but has been silted up.
The Project investment aims to enhance connectivity, remove infrastructure obstacles of key coastal economic zones, as well as residential areas and coastal tourist areas, creating a smooth and synchronous traffic system contributing to socio-economic development.
Improving the inland waterway transport system, enhancing flood drainage in the Truong Giang river basin, supporting flood prevention in Tam Ky area, serving people's lives, tourism and economic development in the area...
In addition, the Project also improves the capacity of fishing boats to anchor and shelter from storms in the Cua Dai and Cua Lo areas in conditions where the Cua Dai or Cua Lo areas are silted up and boats cannot enter or exit.
Create a premise to complete Chu Lai Open Economic Zone according to the plan, as a basis for studying flood drainage options for Tam Ky city across the Truong Giang River.
