Duy Xuyen women follow Uncle Ho's words

Spread good deeds

From the initial purpose of helping poor workers have a quality, cheap breakfast and helping the elderly and sick, the "5k Vegetarian Noodles" group in Phuoc Xuyen block (Nam Phuoc town) has now expanded to distribute charity rice and porridge twice a month to poor patients.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien - Head of the Women's Association of Phuoc Xuyen block said that the "5k Vegetarian Noodles" group was established by the Block Front Working Committee in coordination with the Women's Association in August 2022 with 16 members.

Every month on the first and fifteenth of the lunar month, the group cooks vegetarian noodles and sells them for 5,000 VND/bowl, giving about 70 servings of noodles to the sick and lonely elderly in the block. On the big full moon days in April, July, and October, the group gives noodles to all the elderly in the Phuoc Xuyen block.

After a period of operation, with funding from benefactors, the group cooked and distributed charity porridge and rice to poor patients at Duy Xuyen District Medical Center and the Northern Mountainous Region General Hospital of Quang Nam (Dai Loc).

In 2024, the group also organized cooking and care for the elderly at Hiep Duc Nursing Center, and gave gifts to children at Phu Ninh District Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children. Since the beginning of 2024, the group has cooked and given more than 2,000 meals of rice, noodles, and porridge to poor patients.

“Seeing the workers appreciate the group’s 5,000 VND vegetarian noodles, and the poor patients happily receive rice and porridge, we feel happy because we have done something useful,” Ms. Lien confided.

In 2021, Duy Phuoc Commune Women's Union implemented the model "Mother's love study corner" with the desire to help disadvantaged students have a study corner with full desks, chairs, and study lamps.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc (6/2 grade student, Kim Dong Secondary School) shared: “Previously, when I was invited to speak at a forum to support going to school, I said my dream was to have a study corner. After that, the teachers gave me a desk, chair and study lamp, I felt very happy and my studies improved.”

Ms. Vo Thi Hong Anh - President of the Women's Union of Duy Phuoc commune said that the model has created a widespread influence in the community, thereby supporting a study corner for 14 students in the commune.

In addition, the association also flexibly mobilizes resources to donate learning tools and grant scholarships to poor students, helping them to have confidence and determination, and to fulfill their dreams of knowledge.

Many meaningful models

Since then, learning and following Uncle Ho has been widely spread among cadres and women's union members with many meaningful and practical movements and activities aimed at residential areas.

From 2021 to present, the association at all levels from district to grassroots level continues to maintain and improve the effectiveness of models following Uncle Ho such as "Bookcase following Uncle Ho", "Rice savings jar", "Bowl of love porridge", "Charity meal"...

Forming new models and promoting effectiveness in the community such as "5k breakfast", "0 VND porridge bowl" (Nam Phuoc town), "Saving for orphans" (Duy Thanh), "Savings box" (Duy Nghia, Duy Hai), "Sharing love" stores, "Women with education promotion work" in 14 communes and towns...

According to Ms. Tran Thi Minh Yen, the typical model of "Piggy Bank of Love" has spread the practice of saving among cadres and women's associations.

Over the past three years, the association's piggy banks have periodically raised more than 1 billion VND, a portion of which has been used to build a charity fund for communes and towns to award scholarships and gifts to students and women in difficult circumstances. Or the "Godmother" model has sponsored 71 orphans in especially difficult circumstances with support ranging from 500,000 VND to 1 million VND/month/child until they are 18 years old.

“In recent times, the movement of learning and following Uncle Ho has spread widely, with the emergence of many typical collectives and individuals, creating a positive effect in the community. Thereby, encouraging cadres and members to strive to promote the good qualities of women in the new era, competing to study, work, develop the economy, share love, and join hands to build a better society,” Ms. Yen shared.
