Although the new regulations on extra teaching and learning by the Ministry of Education and Training will not take effect until February 14, in the past few days, many parents in Ho Chi Minh City have been "holding their breath" to listen with a feeling of both joy and worry.

Sharing with us, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, 41 years old, a parent with two children studying in grades 3 and 5 in Binh Tan district, said he was very happy when the State tightened regulations on extra teaching and learning.

"Since the Tet holiday, I heard that the teacher announced that she would temporarily stop teaching extra classes to wait for new regulations. I was very happy to hear that because I had sent my children to extra classes because I wanted the teacher to be comfortable. My two children are still young and do not need to take extra classes 4-5 times a week because they already study from morning to evening at school. Besides, the regulations for primary school have not put pressure on grades or exam scores for a long time," said Mr. Thang.

Some parents whose children are in their final year of high school want to take extra classes to do well in exams.

In fact, for a long time now, many parents in Ho Chi Minh City, especially primary school parents, have sent their children to extra classes just because they respect the teachers in class.

According to research, the situation of forcing students to attend extra classes in Ho Chi Minh City has almost disappeared, but some parents, out of respect for teachers, partly because they think that if they stay at home, children will watch TV, look at phones, iPads... so attending extra classes also has some benefits, besides school knowledge.

However, in reality, there are many parents who want their children to attend extra classes, especially students in middle and high school. Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, 43 years old, living in Tan Phu district, said that her youngest daughter is studying in grade 9 at a middle school in the area and she has been taking her to extra classes in the evening for a long time.

"I just heard the teachers announce that they will temporarily stop extra classes in the coming days to wait for instructions from the education sector, and I'm quite worried. Because this year my daughter is preparing for the 10th grade entrance exam, but her knowledge of Math and Literature is not yet solid. She has studied English since primary school, so I'm quite confident, but she has to take extra classes for the other two subjects to be able to pass the entrance exam to a high school near her home. If she gets a bad score and has to study at a private school, it will be very expensive, and studying at a school in the suburbs is far away and taking her to and from school is also very difficult. Both of the subjects my daughter takes extra classes are taught by teachers at school because it will be more convenient," said Ms. Phuong.

In fact, not only Ms. Phuong but also many parents in Ho Chi Minh City have a practical need for their children to attend extra classes to enrich their knowledge, improve their abilities or be able to pass the entrance exams to good schools at high school, university... The fact that teachers stop teaching extra classes after hours also makes some parents "hold their breath" waiting.

It is known that currently, teachers teaching extra classes at centers outside of school have stopped teaching extra classes to wait for specific instructions from superiors.

Meanwhile, according to Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in the coming time, the Department will have specific instructions on extra teaching and learning in accordance with the guiding circular of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Accordingly, it is expected that Ho Chi Minh City will have an information portal on tutoring and learning. In which, all licensed tutoring centers will be publicly disclosed along with information about teachers, tuition fees, tutoring subjects, teaching time, etc.

In addition, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will coordinate with local authorities to inspect, guide, and manage... so that extra teaching is carried out properly. Teachers need to regulate to properly implement the circular on extra teaching and learning. Anyone who does wrong will be held responsible and handled according to the Law on Civil Servants.
