Stroke is a dangerous disease that can occur at any time and seriously affect people's health and quality of life. Especially during Tet - the time when families gather, living habits and diet often change a lot. This is also one of the factors that increase the risk of stroke, especially for people with underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood cholesterol or obesity.

According to Dr. Bui Chau Tue, Department of Neurology, Cho Ray Hospital, changes in eating habits during Tet, such as consuming salty foods such as pickles, braised meat, dried fish or fried, stir-fried foods, high in cholesterol, are factors that can increase blood pressure - a common cause of stroke. In addition, drinking too much alcohol at parties also increases the risk of stroke. Therefore, during Tet, it is necessary to limit the use of alcohol, prioritize dishes prepared by steaming or boiling, and eat in moderation to protect health.

In addition to diet, lifestyle habits are also factors to consider. Staying up late, waking up late and being sedentary during the holidays increases the risk of stroke, especially for those who have a habit of exercising every day. Patients with underlying diseases need to strictly follow the doctor's instructions on taking medication, and should not skip medication even when busy with entertainment and parties.

Early recognition of stroke symptoms is an important factor in timely intervention. The signs are often summarized by the word “FAST”: F (Face) shows sudden mouth distortion, A (Arms) hemiplegia, S (Speech) changes or difficulty speaking, and T (Time) emphasizes taking the patient to a medical facility as soon as possible for treatment within the “golden time”.

To effectively prevent stroke, not only during Tet but also in daily life, regular health check-ups and screening for risk factors such as blood pressure, diabetes, and blood cholesterol are essential.
