On the afternoon of November 28, local time, within the framework of a working visit to Finland, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met with Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
At the meeting, the Finnish President highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in recent times; emphasized that Vietnam is an important partner of Finland in Southeast Asia; expressed his belief that the visit of the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Government will be a great success, contributing to creating new momentum for the relationship between the two countries in the coming time.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha thanked the Finnish Government for the warm welcome given to the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Government; and expressed his joy at visiting the beautiful country of Finland for the first time.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Government and people of Finland for their valuable support and assistance to Vietnam in the past struggle for national independence and reunification, as well as in the current process of development and international integration; the Finnish water plant is a symbol of friendship between the people of the two countries.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb was pleased to see that the Finland-Vietnam relationship is developing very well and suggested that the two countries should continue to expand cooperation in all areas, prioritizing areas where Finland has strengths and Vietnam has needs.
The President of Finland assessed that the trade relations between the two countries have developed positively, and hoped that the governments of the two countries would take stronger measures to promote them in line with the potential and needs of both sides. The President of Finland recalled his good impressions of the meeting with General Secretary and President To Lam on the occasion of attending the United Nations General Assembly in September 2024 and expressed his wish to soon visit Vietnam.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha agreed with the President's positive assessments of the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Finland. The Deputy Prime Minister hoped that the two countries would strengthen cooperation in the fields of sustainable development, green transformation, and circular economy.
In the discussion on international and regional issues, the two sides said that in the context of complicated developments and many major changes with increasing challenges in both traditional and non-traditional security, countries need to join hands to cooperate in the spirit of promoting multilateralism, with the role of the United Nations in resolving disagreements and narrowing differences by peaceful means, on the basis of international law.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam supports Finland in strengthening cooperation with ASEAN.
