Additives used to produce fake coffee
Previously, at the end of December 2024, Dak Lak Provincial Police discovered 6 establishments producing bean sprouts infused with toxic chemicals. The police seized 20,357 kg of bean sprouts that the group had soaked in the active ingredient 6-Benzylaminopurine along with hundreds of liters of chemicals. At the police station, the subjects confessed that on average, each year they sold about 2,900 tons of bean sprouts infused with the chemical 6-Benzylaminopurine to the market.
The active ingredient 6-Benzylaminopurine is a cell growth stimulant, which, if introduced into the body, will have adverse effects on human health. Inhalation or long-term skin contact can cause low birth weight, hydrocephalus and birth defects, and ingestion of large amounts can cause death.
By January 2025, Dak Lak Provincial Police had dismantled a large-scale fake fertilizer production and trading ring; arrested Nguyen Thi Cam My (41 years old - General Director of Nam Duong Fertilizer Trading Joint Stock Company, Binh Dinh Province), Bui Minh Chanh (43 years old, Ms. My's husband - General Director of United States International Fertilizer Group Joint Stock Company - VINA, Long An Province) and accomplices.
Also during this time, Dak Lak Provincial Police discovered and handled 2 large-scale cases of manufacturing and trading fake ground coffee. The ingredients of the coffee products produced by the subjects were mainly coffee husks, soybeans and additives.
