The red color is filled with lanterns, Tet decoration patterns, carp, paper firecrackers or parallel sentences... displayed all over Hang Ma street. This is a famous address in Hanoi's Old Quarter, imbued with the culture of 36 streets with the traditional profession of producing and trading paper products, offerings, and decorative accessories.
Offerings to the Kitchen Gods are considered a "specialty" of Hang Ma Street. Many shops selling votive offerings are bustling with customers choosing offerings for the 23rd of December.
Ms. Hang, a merchant, said that this year's offerings for the Kitchen Gods are more beautiful in design, with a variety of styles, sizes, and prices. The Kitchen Gods' hats cost from VND100,000 to VND500,000, including three Kitchen God hats and a New Year's Eve hat to worship the gods.
In addition, each homeowner can buy additional clothes, gold coins, gold bars and other offerings with prices ranging from a few tens to a few hundred thousand Dong.
Ms. Hang said that to buy a full set of large-sized offerings to worship the Kitchen Gods and the gods, it could cost up to a million.
However, with the trend of reducing the burning of votive paper, many families choose small-sized offering hats at a moderate cost of only about 200,000 - 300,000 VND/set.
“This year, purchasing power has also decreased, but these are worship items and traditional customs of every Vietnamese family, so the demand for these items is still stable. However, instead of choosing large, elaborate sets of offerings with many offerings, many families choose small or medium-sized sets with simpler offerings. These products are mostly made domestically, in traditional votive paper making villages in Hanoi and Bac Ninh…” - Ms. Hang shared.

Along with shops specializing in selling votive offerings, many small traders here also sell decorative accessories for holidays.
Therefore, every Tet holiday, Hang Ma street is filled with colors, especially during the traditional Tet holiday, Tet decorations with various patterns such as parallel sentences, firecrackers, fans, banh chung, phoenix fabric, apricot blossoms, peach blossoms, etc. are displayed.

Ms. Mai - a small trader in decorative items, said that she often designs her own decor models for customers to decorate and create their own shapes. Especially with the trend of making traditional-style decorations for the traditional Tet holiday, many women in the office or in the family often choose their own materials and accessories to "create" their own traditional spaces such as using a pair of shoulder poles, bamboo blinds, baskets, baskets, hats, etc.
