Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Anh Son is currently a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Hung Yen University of Technical Education.
Valedictorian of Mechanical Engineering
In 2007, after graduating from high school, Mr. Son registered his first choice at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (now Hanoi University of Science and Technology), but the result was not as expected, he failed. "At that time, I reluctantly registered my second choice at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Hung Yen University of Technical Education with the spirit of retaking the exam the following year. Then after the first semester, I gradually fell in love with the environment here and began to wholeheartedly study at this school," Mr. Son recalled.
Dr. Tran Anh Son was appointed to the title of associate professor at the age of 34.
In 2011, Mr. Son graduated as valedictorian in the field of mechanical engineering. After that, he worked at a large Japanese company in Hung Yen province with a high salary. However, after 1 year of working, he missed the school he had worked at and, most of all, he wanted to share and convey more to young people. He applied and became a lecturer at Hung Yen University of Technical Education. In 2014, he completed the training program and obtained a master's degree in mechanical engineering at the same school where he was teaching.
In 2017, Mr. Son had a direct interview with Professor Te-Hua Fang, a famous Taiwanese professor in the field of nanomaterials in mechanics. He received a full scholarship from Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (Taiwan). After 3 years of concentrated study, he graduated with honors and received a PhD in mechanical engineering. He returned to Vietnam and continued teaching at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Hung Yen University of Technical Education.
Talking about the reason for choosing to pursue the field of mechanics, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Anh Son said: "I pursue the field of mechanics because I am very passionate about exploring machines and technical equipment. This is also a very developed field and is in great demand for high-quality human resources."
According to Associate Professor Dr. Tran Anh Son, teaching and scientific research are two important tasks of university lecturers. He is currently a key member of the strong research group "Nanomaterials and applications".
"My research results are updated, included in relevant specialized lectures, and used as reference materials for courses in the training program of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. I always accompany and guide students in scientific research, helping them to approach research methods and thinking early. I am also often invited to participate in reviewing scientific articles for prestigious domestic and foreign journals," he shared.
New research in the field of mechanics
Recent research by Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Anh Son focuses on two main directions, including: studying the mechanical properties and deformation and destruction mechanisms of mechanical materials (nano) under different mechanical impacts; studying the influence of technological parameters on the mechanical processing process.

The research work that the young Associate Professor is most proud of is his first prestigious ISI international article published in 2018 in Materials Research Express Magazine. "This is not the most outstanding work, but it brings me the most memories and experiences. With 12 rejections from specialized journals, this work broke the record for the number of submissions and also made me the most miserable. However, after those failures, I have accumulated a lot of valuable experience, clearly understanding what in-depth research is. That is also the foundation for me to conduct future research more easily, thoughtfully and completely," he said.
To approach new directions in scientific research, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Anh Son said that he always updates relevant information and knowledge because technology in the world is developing every day, every hour.
Sharing about being awarded the academic title, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Anh Son said: "I feel very honored, proud and grateful."
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Anh Son, the mechanical engineering field in general and the machine manufacturing technology industry in particular are constantly developing, and at the same time need a huge workforce. "Young people need to equip themselves with a ready mindset, clear goals and aspirations. If we prepare the above factors, acquiring related knowledge in the mechanical field is extremely simple. In particular, mechanics is not only for men, but women can also study very well," this Associate Professor, Dr. added.
In the coming time, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Anh Son will continue to strive to pursue a teaching career, passionate about scientific research to improve knowledge, contribute to the school and society.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Anh Son has published 34 scientific articles, including 25 scientific articles in prestigious international journals including 22 scientific articles - ISI (9 Q1 articles, 12 Q2 articles, 1 Q4 article) and 3 scientific articles - Scopus; H-index: 10, total citations: 240.
