Event - Approval of Lien Khuong airport planning

Lien Khuong Airport is planned to become an international airport.

With the facilities ensuring flight operations, Lien Khuong Airport continues to use the existing Air Traffic Control Tower and DVOR/DME navigation system. The planning of the airport lighting system ensures synchronous operations, as well as the planning of the automatic weather observation system (AWOS) in accordance with the operational requirements at the Port.

In addition, research will be conducted on the arrangement of automatic runway intrusion warning system (ARIWS), multi-point monitoring system (MLAT), weather radar system, runway surface monitoring system, bird detection and repelling system, wind shear warning system, and other flight operations assurance facilities when required. The specific location will be determined during the project implementation phase to ensure optimal system operation.

Regarding the general technical infrastructure system, the main road to the Port will connect in two directions: connecting by existing road with National Highway 20, expanding the scale when needed and connecting with Lien Khuong - Prenn expressway when needed.

Regarding internal traffic routes of the Port, connecting routes from the main road to the functional areas of the Port will be planned; cross-section of routes will be from 2-4 lanes; additional service roads will be added when needed when expanding the Port.

The planning approved by the Ministry of Transport also provides options for car parking systems, power supply, water supply, drainage systems, wastewater treatment systems, solid waste and hazardous waste storage areas, aircraft repair and maintenance service areas, emergency and rescue systems, off-site parking lots, vehicle and ground equipment staging areas, fueling areas for vehicles and ground equipment, aviation fuel supply areas, aviation catering processing areas, medical stations, and port operators.

The total land use demand for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 of Lien Khuong Airport is about 340.84 hectares. Of which, the land area managed by civil aviation is 176.21 hectares and the land area for common use managed by civil is 153.90 hectares. The land area managed by the military is about 10.73 hectares .
