During the historic August days 78 years ago, the people of all ethnic groups in Lam Dong and the people of our country, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, rose up in a seething atmosphere to fight, smash the yoke of oppression and exploitation of the colonial and feudal regimes, seize power, and establish the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the first People's Democratic State in Southeast Asia.
The success of the August Revolution in 1945 was the first great victory of our people since the Party was founded, opening a great turning point in the history of thousands of years of building and defending the country of our people. From here, our country entered a new era, the era of national independence associated with socialism; our people are the masters of the country, masters of their own destiny, united in building and developing the country to become increasingly rich and powerful. This is not only a brilliant milestone in the history of the Vietnamese nation, but also an event of epochal significance, encouraging colonial peoples, oppressed and exploited people in the world to rise up and fight for independence, democracy and social progress.
In August 1945, the National Party Conference held in Tan Trao (Tuyen Quang) affirmed: "A very good opportunity for us to gain independence has come" and decided to launch a nationwide uprising to seize power from the Japanese fascists and their lackeys before the Allied forces entered Indochina; proposed three principles to ensure the victory of the general uprising, which were: Concentration, unity, and timeliness. At 11:00 p.m. on August 13, 1945, the Uprising Committee issued Military Order No. 1 calling on the entire people to launch a general uprising. On August 16, 1945, the National Congress held in Tan Trao approved "10 major policies of the Viet Minh"; approved the "General Uprising Order"; stipulated the national flag and national anthem; established the Central National Liberation Committee, that is, the provisional government with comrade Ho Chi Minh as President. President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter calling on the people of the whole country to launch a general uprising, stating: “The decisive hour for the destiny of our nation has come. The whole country, let's stand up and use our own strength to liberate ourselves.”
Under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the people of the whole country rose up, carried out a general uprising, and seized power. From August 14 to 18, the general uprising broke out and won victory in the rural areas of the Northern Delta, most of the Central region, part of the South, and in the towns of Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Ha Tinh, Hoi An, Quang Nam, etc. On August 19, the uprising to seize power was victorious in Hanoi. On August 23, the uprising was victorious in Hue and in Bac Kan, Hoa Binh, Hai Phong, Ha Dong, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Binh Dinh, Gia Lai, Bac Lieu, etc. On August 25, the uprising was victorious in Saigon - Gia Dinh, Kon Tum, Soc Trang, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Bien Hoa, Tay Ninh, Ben Tre, etc. In Con Dao, the Con Dao Prison Party Committee led the imprisoned revolutionary soldiers to rise up and seize power. In the seething atmosphere of the whole country's struggle for revolutionary power, within just 7 days (from August 22 to 28, 1945) with the revolutionary spirit of the masses, the core of which was the leadership of Party cells, mass organizations and self-defense forces, the people of the two provinces of Lam Vien and Dong Nai Thuong (today's Lam Dong) carried out a successful uprising to seize power, establishing a Viet Minh government from the province to the grassroots. Within just 15 days at the end of August 1945, the general uprising achieved complete victory, and the power of the whole country was in the hands of the people.
The August Revolution succeeded, on September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square (Hanoi), President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the provisional government, solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, declaring to the nation and the world: “Vietnam has the right to freedom and independence, and in fact has become a free and independent country. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to devote all their spirit and strength, their lives and property to maintain that freedom and independence!”
78 years have passed, but the spirit of the historic autumn days and the valuable lessons of the August Revolution on Party building, grasping the specific circumstances of each historical period, setting out the correct revolutionary line; seizing the opportunity to gather and promote the strength of the great national unity bloc, promoting the strength of the nation with the strength of the times, promoting the spirit of initiative, creativity, self-reliance, self-improvement... have always urged and fostered the strength of our entire Party, people and army to overcome difficulties and challenges, firmly step on each revolutionary path, create miracles of the Ho Chi Minh era, expel French colonialists and American imperialists, unify the entire country, and lead the whole country steadily forward to building socialism. Therefore, our country has never had the foundation, potential, position and prestige like today.
Celebrating the 78th anniversary of the August Revolution, proud of the glorious historical tradition, eternally grateful for the great President Ho Chi Minh, the genius leader of the Vietnamese revolution and the blood sacrifice of millions of heroic martyrs, the outstanding children of our nation are more fully aware of the responsibility of today's generation in applying and promoting the valuable lessons of the August Revolution, making efforts to contribute to comprehensively and synchronously promoting the renovation, industrialization and modernization to firmly build and protect the Fatherland, maintain a peaceful and stable environment; striving to become a developed country by the middle of the 21st century, following the socialist orientation as the goal of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. In particular, making Lam Dong a driving force and growth pole of the Central Highlands as set out in the Resolution of the 11th Lam Dong Provincial Party Congress.
