Indeed, I have heard a lot about Trang An, but when I arrived here, I was really surprised and conquered from the first minute by the majestic mountains, rivers, and valleys. Stepping down to the ferry, we feel like we are standing in front of a watercolor painting created by mountains, rivers, clouds, and sky, and it is difficult to describe the emotions that are surging when sitting on small boats gliding on the water as if we are gradually lost in a fairyland. Even more interesting is that sometimes we can hear the rustic, rustic Northern accent of the boatmen mixed with the sound of oars pushing the water, introducing the names and ancient legends when passing through the caves and valleys. There are about 100 caves here, both dry and water caves, they are connected by several dozen valleys. The caves through the water between the valleys are created by nature in many magical shapes, some caves are up to tens of kilometers long, surrounded by steep limestone mountains with interesting shapes. Each place name, each cave name has a meaning and is associated with stories, historical events of building and defending the country of our ancestors from the Dinh - Le - Ly - Tran dynasties such as: Dia Linh cave, Ba Giot cave, Nau Ruou cave, Thuoc cave, Seo Lon cave, Si cave, Ao Trai cave, Sang cave, Toi cave, Luong cave, Tran Temple valley, May valley, Khong valley... Interspersed among the natural masterpieces are also ancient architectural works created by human hands - all of which have been harmoniously combined. They blend together in a magical, poetic space, creating a sacred, mysterious beauty for Trang An. On the tour, visitors will stop to admire historical relics marking the Dinh - Le - Tran dynasties such as Lang valley (the rear base of King Dinh), Tran temple (worshiping Hung Dao Vuong), Khong palace (worshiping 7 mandarins of Dinh dynasty) and visit Bai Dinh pagoda, Ban Long pagoda, visit ecological islands... It can be said that it is rare to find a heritage that combines historical, scientific, aesthetic, ecological and environmental values like Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex. With the diversity of geology, geomorphology and cave landscape system formed over millions of years, Trang An is considered an outdoor geological museum. Trang An is also an area with a rich and diverse ecosystem: both on land and underwater. According to initial statistics, the terrestrial ecosystem has more than 600 species of plants and 2,000 species of animals, while underwater there are 30 species of floating animals and 40 species of benthic animals. In particular, there are rare species such as striped-neck turtles. On the mountain, there are many precious plants such as: sưa, lát, nghien, orchids, and many precious birds and animals such as: clouded leopard, mountain goat, ground phoenix, starling, babbler... In particular, the white-breasted gibbon is a species listed in the World Red Book. Not only does it have a diverse natural environment with majestic and poetic landscapes, Trang An also carries within itself priceless historical and cultural values with historical relics from the primitive period to the Dinh, Le, Ly, Tran dynasties. Archaeological discoveries here have shown that Trang An was once a place of residence for prehistoric people. This is evidenced by the traces and artifacts of stone and ceramics collected from excavation sites and some caves in the area. Trang An culture is considered equivalent to Hoa Binh culture but still has some different characteristics from other archaeological cultures previously discovered in Vietnam such as: Hoa Binh culture (17,000 to 7,000 years BP), Da But culture (6,000 to 4,000 years BP), Quynh Van culture (6,000 to 3,500 BP)... Later, when entering the civilized era, Trang An was still a place with favorable natural conditions for people to continue to choose as a permanent residence. In particular, it was chosen by King Dinh as the place to build the first capital of the independent feudal Vietnamese State - Dai Co Viet and then by King Le Dai Hanh (Tien Le dynasty). Hoa Lu ancient capital is a complex of historical and cultural relics related to the careers of national heroes of the Dinh, Tien Le and Ly dynasties. This place was also the capital of the Tran Dynasty's resistance against the Yuan invaders twice, and its traces are still preserved through architectural works and relics discovered in the area. This also shows the intelligence and military strategy of the ancient kings. They knew how to take full advantage of the advantages of nature to turn limestone mountain ranges into a strong and sturdy citadel, saving maximum human and material resources in protecting the capital as well as using caves to hide troops, taking advantage of the rugged terrain to defend and fight the enemy. With the invaluable values of landscape, ecology, environment as well as the rare historical and scientific values mentioned above, the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex has been and is being coordinated by local authorities with relevant ministries and branches to prepare a scientific dossier to propose UNESCO to recognize and include it in the World Heritage List.
