The whale is about 1.3m long and weighs about 20kg.
After the discovery, the authorities and people of Sa Dong village brought the whale back, buried it in the grounds of Sa Hai Tu mausoleum and held a ceremony according to local customs.
“Whales are considered the mascots of the sea and have important significance to fishermen. According to the beliefs of coastal fishermen, burying whales and holding ceremonies according to local customs shows respect for this sacred fish,” said Mr. Truong Quang Luong, Head of Sa Dong village.
